6 month wellness check and vaccines!

Aug 04, 2010 - 4 comments

Yesterday was Ryder's 6 month vaccines and wellness check.  It all went exceedingly well.  His weight is now at 15lbs, 10oz, length is 26 inches.  He was born in 3rd percentile, last wellness check was in the 10th and is now in the 25th!  Yay baby!!!  They also said he is ahead in his basic motor skills...he can sit up without support, stand holding onto something and is rolling over both ways. He is also starting to crawl, although only for a second or two before it turns into tummy time..lol.  He is super strong.  He also babbles non stop...lol, gets that from his mommy I think.  Overall he was pronounced healthy and doing well.

The vaccines went well as well.  He let out a little scream, but calmed down and was all smiles within a minute or two.  A few hours later he was super cranky and interested in nothing but being held and rocked, which we were happy to do.  We just sat quietly in his rocking chair and read books.  He was up a little later then his normal bedtime, but then gave us 8 hours!!  Those nights are still infrequent, so always a pleasant surprise.  Today he is his normal playful happy self, so obviously no long lasting affects.

It still boggles my mind how much they change in 6 months. It's really hard to believe that this healthy strong little guy was only 4lbs 14oz and had to stay in NICU for 5 days after his birth.  He is so chubby, smiley and happy and I just love every second of being his mommy.  Every day is something new and exciting.

wow he IS ahead in motor skills!! i can't believe he's already standing with support...i mean my daughter was a little behind on some of that stuff because (no joke) her head was so big it made it difficult for her to physically do some of it..but 6 months is REALLY early!!! you must be so proud of him!!!

by the way...YAY for 8 hours ;)

My little guy had his 6 month physical yesterday, too. Lol, must've been the day for 6 months olds...

Yay for Ryder already starting to crawl! That's one thing I think Greydon may not be doing for another few weeks, I think because he's such a chubbers, lol. Greydon is 20 lbs and 28 inches long (93rd percentile for height and 90th for weight), but he's always been a hulk. He's wearing size 12 month clothes now. He's doing everything except crawling (and walking, of course) because he attempts to lift himself up on his arms and knees and he's just so heavy, lol! It's actually pretty funny because he tries so hard...he really wants to be mobile...but he's still bigger than he can bear, lol.

Like you said, each day brings something new and exciting--even as they get bigger and you find yourself with a 5 year old one day, ready to send him to kindergarten. :-D
Being a mom is so fun and rewarding!

I'm still so shocked to hear people saying their 6-12 month olds are around or over 20 lbs...both of my babies are tall and thin because their father is very tall and incredibly thin, and I was VERY thin until college....my daughter at 22 months is only 24lbs and she definitely doesn't look sickly and her doctor isn't worried that she's in the 25% for weight but the 80% for height...last I checked she was like 34 inches I think? so she may have gone up in height percentile since the last time we were at the doctor's.

but when I brought her in for an iron level check at the LabCorp the nurse looks at the paper saying "23lbs" (3 months ago) and she goes "seriously?? she looks so HEALTHY...my 4 month old is 25lbs" i was like...wow...lol.

I'm so amazed that both of your boys are already so mobile...like I said Kahlan's head was rather large so she was a little slow on some of the things requriing balance, but she's always been ahead verbally...but now with Grey I'm starting to think that's the difference between boys and girls because he's been lifting his head since birth but it took Kahlan aboud 6wks...

I can't believe how fast both of your boys have grown..I know I'm gonna blink and Grey will be 6 months...it breaks my heart because it went too fast with Kahlan and with this one I wish I could slow down time...

sorry to hijack your post, LOL..I'm so glad Ryder's doing so well!

Believe me, I'm even amazed at Greydon's size. He's much bigger than Trevor was, who was always exactly where the "average" mark for everything physical was considered. He was the textbook average size of 7 lbs and 20 inches at birth and always wore the clothing size of his age range--still does.
Greydon, however, we thought would be a preemie by 5 weeks (thank God he wasn't), and when they did the u/s while I was hospitalized for pre-term labor, the doctor said he was definitely on the large size for a preemie, measuring approximately 4.75 to 5 lbs at 33 weeks. Then he was born at 38 weeks and weighed a half ounce less than 8 lbs and was 19½ inches. He was in 3-6 month clothes by four weeks old, lol. His pedi looked at me at his 2 month checkup and asked how tall I was and how tall my husband was, and I said I'm 5'5" and my husband is 5'7". She just laughed and said, "Yeah, don't be surprised if he 'outgrows' you both someday!"

The time does go so so fast. There are times when I wish all of us mommies could slow it down sometimes, but then other times, I get so excited to think what's coming next--and to know it'll be here before you know it! Each new accomplishment makes you so proud of them. :-)
I know when I saw the picture of Ryder crawling the other day, my jaw dropped and I was like, "Holy cow! He's up and crawling already! I'll bet Amanda is over the moon!"  :-D
He's come such a long way from his newborn pictures, where he looked so tiny and frail. Now look at the little guy! You'd never know he was that itty bitty newborn now!
