I also do alot of advocacy in my local area. Anyone who would like to network with me - well that would be great.

I'm 25 dxed PDD NOS at age 6. I'm not sure about the environmental toxins and autism link. I've heard it being thrown out there along with a number of other things. I'm curious to see what you think are toxic chemicals.

If you want some help, I can offer what stuff I know. I take a different approach though. Rather than try to remove my autism, I try to live along with it and take advantage of the strengths it has to offer. Sometimes it's a challenge because the same strengths can also be the same weaknesses, such as having an obsessive nature. It can get in the way, but it can also help me focus on the things I work at. I view it like anything else. There are strengths and there are challenges.  I can say what things I've done to help overcome some of my challenges and that may be helpful, or it may not be.

I've found ANI (Autism Network International) to be a good advocacy group.  You can also check out to hear from other autistic people. They can help you know what things to expect as well as help you be able to relate to your son.

my son is 18, has autism pdd/nos since age 3, starting with speech, hearing delays, then to behavior issues, now to a full grown adult with little to no help from our community.  He graduated from high school with a regular diploma and has started fall semester at a community college because we as parents did not feel he was ready to be away from home on a college campus with no help.  The college has been very slow to respond to our request for assistance and my son is now on the struggling list in a computer intro to Java class.  We can not help him in this course as parents, and the school has no tutor available and the teacher is way over his head and does not understand my son, or autism at all.  I do not know where to turn.  I would think a community college receiving grant money from our state would be entitled to find someone who can guide him through this class,  but I am being told that this is not high school, and this is how college works.  Any help on where to go from here.  I am sure we have more challenges ahead as he enters the college/work force.  I need someone who will help a autistic adult.  Any ideas.  We live in a small NH town.

My son is 9 years old and was diagnosed last year with PDD. I am okay with it. God cannot give me more then I can handle but He must have felt a need to give me a special son who I love dearly and would try to find every avenue for a cure. I just read the Jenny McCarthy article in People magazine and cried knowing I have gone through some of the situations she has.
I know help is on the way! I believe it in my heart! I don't know where to start but I'm thinking big picture here! I'm not resting until God grants a miracle cure.
God bless you all!

My son is an 11 yr old and has been in and out of residential treatments.  He has been diagnosed with several different disorders and the most recent is PDD nos.  He never had any developmental disorders and this is the first time I have heard of this disorder.  I am being to wonder if the doctors even know what they are talking about.  They say he has ADHD, OCD, ODD, PTSD and depression and anxiety.  They have him on  more meds than most elderly people take.  He takes 6 different ones in the morning, 1 at noon, 2 at 3 pm and then 4 at bed.  I am surprised my child even functions but most of the meds have little or no effect. can anyone help?

My son is 4 and was diagnosed with PDD NOS when he was 3.. He is in an early intervention program but I also would love any advise that anyone who is also dealing with can give me!! I want to help him in any way I can and I have to say it was quite refreshing to hear some of the other posts where your child is now functioning with mainstream which is obviously my goal.. He is such an AMAZING boy. He is so sweet and loves hugs and kisses and he just needs a little help with his behavior and how he handles it... I really think he is a typical 4 year old who needs a little help!  Any information anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated!!
