Another day

Aug 30, 2008 - 4 comments

Well today at work wasnt the greatest. One would think working in a hospital  would maybe bring some comfort when your hearts hopping around all day...thats not the case for me:( I just want to be able to go to work and do my job..but when your having bigemy and nsvt it makes it hard..Im trying to keep somewhat positive because I did get inusurance and I have a reg doctors apoint to get me my refferal. Its just like with everything its going to take time to get in with the cardio(hopefully Im wrong:) ) Deep down I know whats bothering me is the fact the doc may say I need an ICD,I know those save your life but TRUTHFULLY If I had a choice of something else lol ID take it..Sigh I know im being a big baby, its just when I read posts of grown MEN saying the ICD shock is the most horrifying experience..IT TENDS TO FREAK ME OUT A TAD BIT...just a tad:( UGH...sO now im just ranting and praying they will be able to help me with heart medicine..If I had just one wish it would be never to have NSVT again..pvcs I can handle (I guess :) but just not the other...

i understand completely about the svt /nsvt ,u know when i got my svt attack i was driving on a main road at 120 km not only did the feeling in my legs go but my hands as well, lasted about 30 secs and i barely got  pulled over-i will never forget it and it took me mts to have the confidence to drive on my own again ,and i work for myself which is worst, then all the heart tests started ,the meds ,which put me in hosiptal twice cause they made me so sick and then ,the ablation,in the last nine mths i have had svt recorded again ,so i am still getting hits like u ,,it is scary jules i too have the pvcs which i feel i could cope with ,,,but there are other things in my life which are good very good and sometimes altough i wish i could be like every 36 yr old guy with a normal heart ,i think i just have to accept that i don't and it hurts because it is scary,,,but things will turn around for me and i hope they will turn around for you and i am sure they will---if u do need an icd AND THATS IF --would'nt it be better in the long run to protect you and give u a better quality of life , everyone deverses that ,,,some of us just need a little help along the way.i would think the shock from a icd is only terrifying cause it is unexpected like when someone jumps behind u and gives u a fright not a great example i know but the shock only lasts seconds count to 3 and it's gone and your heart is happy...............u will be ok

Jules,

You might want to look online to find the qualifying factors to get an ICD. You may be worrying for nothing. But even if it turns out you need one...I've read varying accounts of how awful the shocks can be. They can vary from minor nuisance to horrible life-changing experience. There was an article in the New York Times yesterday that estimated that only 10% of the recipients of ICDs ever actually receive necessary shocks. I know a woman who's had her ICD for 9 years and has never been shocked. But she's experienced the ICD pacing her out of a bad rythym and preventing a shock and/or cardiac arrest! That's pretty cool! I say better off shocked than dead, especially if you have good quality of life. But for whatever it's worth, I hope it turns out you don't need one and if you do, remember there is support out there for you!
