Guilty of giving false information to a law enforcement officer?  Why would she be giving false information if she weren't trying to save her a$$?  What an abortion of justice.....  I think the jury fell for all of the back story.... the affair, potential molestations.... unbelievable.

They just didn't PROVE she did it. Simple. It doesn't matter what we think. Where's the proof???  There was no cause of death sworn to and no evidence tying Casey to the death.  The jury could only decide this based on the evidence (or lack of) that they were given.  She admitted she lied but that's all they could prove.   That's the system...

It is the system and it often happens.  The law is what you have to go by and unfortunately, even if you KNOW someone is guilty, if the prosecutor doesn't make the case with solid evidence, people walk.  I'm sure the jury does think she's guilty.  But most people don't really understand the law, rules of evidence, and all that goes into coming to a verdict.  Lots of times the jury is unhappy with their decision but the evidence just isn't there.  It's a shame a lot of the time but we do have the best system in the world.  But it is still flawed.

unbelievable.... although "not guilty" is not the same as "innocent"

by Barb135, Jul 05, 2011
You're right, "not guilty" is not the same as "innocent", but she can't be tried for the same crime twice, even if new evidence shows up that proves she's guilty, which I believe she is.  They'd have to come with new charges, which wouldn't be all that easy.

My faith in the justice system just dropped a few notches.

And let's not forget - OJ is sitting in jail right now.  So what goes around comes around.  If she's guilty, she'll pay for it eventually.

Avatar universal
by brice1967, Jul 05, 2011
Actually Barb, you made an excellent point.  Not guilty is not the same as innocent, and the prosecution did have to convince the jury, beyond reasonable doubt according to the facts, that she was guilty.  They failed to do that.

1416133 tn?1351123217

Her life isn't exactly going to be a bed of roses from now on...she'll be living in her own hell...it still ***** to be her!! And that's right: the prosecution did not prove anything except that she was a lying, little, party girl. Like every other 22 yr old party girl!

A death penality charge of murder one was the charge. The hardest one to prove, and they just could not prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.  They could of charged her with 2nd degree, or a lesser charge.  The other charges fell off because of the murder one.

Funny how Scott Peterson was found guilty though and there was less evidence.  Glad for it though, but what got me was not even the guilty on child neglect?  Something was not right here.  I will not watch any interview or buy any book.  I will not give that woman any money.

btw I can't remember, but I don't think she can profit from this - something about not profiting for what you've been tried in court for [racks brain] maybe that will be the case and she won't get a dime.

It makes me sad that all of us ladies want so badly a (and for some, another) child and this lady kills hers. I am so sad that this beautiful little girl is dead because of such a selfish woman. We all know that she is guilty but they didn't have the evidence to prove without doubt that she did it and with that you can't convict and If I was a juror i would almost agree with them because you just can't convict based on gut feelings. It's so unfortunate. sad day.

by Barb135, Jul 05, 2011
Mom2four85 -- I'm racking my brain too, and it does seem like there is something about not profiting from certain things you've been tried for, but I can't remember off the top of my head.

MissMalibu - the death penalty was only one of the possible punishments, if she'd been convicted of 1st degree murder.  They did charge her with lesser things (aggravated manslaughter, child abuse, etc) and the jury found her not guilty of those as well.

From what I could see, the woman (using that term loosely) has no conscience and will go merrily about her life... what a tragedy......

Brice -- I can't take credit for the "not guilty is not the same as innocent" (the post above mine), but it's true; the jury found her not guilty of "those" charges; we all pretty much know she's guilty of harming that child in one way or another, we just don't know exactly what she did.  Maybe the prosecution could/should have charged her differently?

Our "laws and rules of evidence" were enacted to protect the innocent.  The problem is these same "laws and rules of evidence" end up protecting the GUILTY as well, and we call ours the "best system"!!  Our "system" is best(?) for OJ Simpson and Casey Anthony but NOT for Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman and Caylee Anthony.

Sad day..I knew she would not get the death penalty..but I figured at the very least she would get convicted of aggravated manslaughter.  It's amazing..you can just really do whatever you want now-a-days and get away with it.

No justice for Caylee.  Casey will likely walk Thursday and back to partying by the weekend.  However...now everyone knows her and knows what a big liar she is and she will have a hard time the rest of her life.  Not b/c she feels badly about anything she did but b/c others will now treat her differently as a result of this...they just will.

At least that precious baby is in the arms of Jesus and all the angels now. She's in a better place than Casey is.

I hope she doesn't have any more children either. Some people shouldn't have children, or pets, either, for that matter.

Hopefully the cops will continue to reveal the truth. Mason has said she won't be going home to mom/dad, where will she go? Perhaps to friends, after she makes one up. I'm not sure who will one day come forward with the truth. I have my doubts that dad had anything to with it, I don't feel he would have stupid enough to leave the body so close to home. Even if it was an accident, someone should be charged. The 31 days and all the lies need to be explained. I'm still in disbelief the way the jury came back.

margypops, you are right. We have a sick media. And, the media wields enormous power. As terrible as this case was, why did this one particular trial get so much media attention? Might it be our own fault that it was so 'high profile' to begin with? We need to ask ourselves why people have such an insatiable appetite for entertainment. Are we to a point where we cannot distinguish between fact and fallacy?...I suppose the jury weighed only the evidence presented to them and gave a verdict accordingly. But, a precious life has been taken and no one has been held accountable for it.

Whatawomen, I believe that we still have the double jeopardy law in the US. Sometimes, the accused is charge with other crimes such as violating the civil rights of the victims.

Its a shame. I really thought she did it and her family covered it up. there is a similiar case going on in my hometown. 3 year old Sophie was abused physically and sexualy by her mother's boyfriend.Which lead to that poor angel's death. They caught the boyfriend but the mom ran off. Still no sign of her.

abuse of a corpse, conspiracy-was in the same jail with the twin sister of the brain tumor lady who seduced casey's dad (probably got the woman to volunteer to help with the search, seduce the dad. casey needed her father to lose credibility), theft by check her moms acct, theft from grandfathers savings account, failure to report a death, failure to report a crime(kidnapping), One of the zannys has filed a lawsuit today for defamation of character and loss of income  and I think there were like 10 different Zanny's so maybe the money she gets from her slutty reality show will  never be seen by her.  Not sure if bro and dad can sue her also for falsely accusing them of molestation since Jose Baez is the one who said all that.
Look up Caylee's Law, to make it a felony to fail to report a missing child.
Karma spares no one.  Her lifestyle ...just a matter of time.

Charles Manson was never at the scene when sharon tate and the biancas were slaughtered but he was guilty of telling the others to do it.  there was no physical evidence tying him to the scene.  People have been convicted on circumstantial evidence.

The jury expected csi evidence. Since casey hid the body for that long , all evidence would be gone.  Her attorney would have appealled if they convicted which would have been better anyway because  more evidence could have surfaced in the time it took for the appeal.

They should have done a psych exam on her.

April, the only thing I can come up with is that they cannot possibly have a conscious.  They just cannot.  I don't know if it's because they are so self absorbed that only their needs count, or if it's because they are complete physcopaths.  I guess it doesn't matter really.  I just cannot imagine a circumstance in which a mother could harm her child.  I couldn't even fathom it.  I would kill myself first if I felt that way - or at the very least turn myself in and him over to someone who would care for him.

I have a hard time with the not guilty verdict for one simple reason.  She claims that the baby drowned in a pool and she panicked and tried to cover it up.  Ok, maybe in a stretch I could possibly buy that.  I mean, there was no evidence to the contrary really.  But - how on earth did that duct tape get there?  There was no reason that I saw offered for that.  If she panicked and decided to hide it why did she put duct tape on the mouth?  For me that was the most damning part of it.  It is why I am 100% convinced she is guilty.  I could even buy the partying...people do strange things when mourning.  But the two combined?  I just can't figure out why she is not spending the rest of her life behind bars.

203342 tn?1328737207
by April2, Jul 10, 2011
There was the duct tape and the choloroform (sp?). The whole thing is fishy. How could it have been an accident if duct tape was found on her nose and mouth and chlorform in her body?
Then she makes up some grand story about how the babysitter stole her, only didn't report her missing right away. She goes out and parties and gets a tattoo. The whole story about her father molesting her didn't even come out till later. It's like she just kept making up story after story to cover the last one. Why did that not seem to matter? I don't get any of this!

377493 tn?1356502149
by adgal, Jul 10, 2011
Me either.  Not sure if you caught this or not, but a few of the jurors have now spoken out.  They have said they totally believed she was guilty, but the prosecution didn't give them enough evidence to convict on first degree murder.  And you know what the ironic thing is?  The physical evidence wasn't there because the body wasn't found for so long.  So because she committed yet another crime and hid the body and didn't tell anyone, she couldn't be convicted.  They actually didn't find chloroform in the body because it was too decomposed. It was found in the car, etc.  But if the body had been found earlier, she could have been convicted.  So not only did she tell all those lies, she benefited from them.  So twisted.  In my opinion she should have gotten a life sentence based on that alone.  That poor baby.  At least she is safe and loved now.  No one can hurt her ever again.

145992 tn?1341345074
by mami1323, Jul 12, 2011
Adgal I agree, the jury didn't have to convict her of first degree murder.  They could have convicted her of manslaughter.  She didn't even get a conviction on child neglect.  It's so disturbing.  If this woman winds up pregnant again, I will be disgusted.

1283286 tn?1312911966
by Dav125, Jul 12, 2011
The whole case is a sad one for sure. Had they pursued "involuntary" manslaughter and child neglect, there would have been a conviction on both counts.. The prosecution went for broke though.. And in doing so tied the hands of the jury as best as I can see of this. The manslaughter charge was one of an "aggrevated" nature, not a simple manslaughter charge.Thats what the jury had to vote on..There was no option for the lessor included charge of involuntary manslaughter to vote on...That,,along with a charge of " criminal " child neglect vs child neglect..Again, no option for that lessor included offense to be considered.

There's no doubt that neglect took place, but of a criminal nature is where all the evidence (or lack of it) left the jury with very little to work with..

Its a tangled web no doubt..And I really wonder about the assumption that she acted alone in "whatever" happened..None of mom's DNA was found in any of the material found where her daughter was discovered..That strikes me as weird..

Casey Anthony was very "creative" with the lies she told others all along.  She's very "talented" in her deceitfulness -"Zanny the Nanny" was a play on words.  Zanny was her word for Xanax (people on the street call this drug zanny, zannybars, etc.)  Casey would drug Caylee with Xanax (Zanny).  Casey was using Xanax as a "baby sitter".  While Caylee slept (was drugged) Casey would place that Baby in the trunk of her car and tell everyone else that Caylee was with Zanny the Nanny and Casey would be free to party.  Who knows what happened in the end - maybe it WAS an accident - maybe she didn't REALLY mean to kill Caylee, maybe Casey overdosed Caylee on Xanax or Chloroform or whatever and She died "accidently".  Maybe Casey found Her dead in the trunk and left Her there for awhile until she decided how to dispose of Her.  WHATever, HOWever it happened, I (among many others) believe Casey Anthony did kill her Daughter.  At the very, very least - manslaugter.  The evidence was there.  There doesn't need to be an eyewitness to murder in order to convict.  There have been cases where the conviction was made when a body was never found.  I do NOT respect this verdict.  I think almost any 12 other jurors would have found Casey Anthony guilty

i complety agree with you. her daughter is missing for 30 days and she continues on like nothing is going on, accidental or not she did it and she should have plead guilty at least to child neglect and abuse!! she is a sick human being!

unfortnatly she is allowed to make money off of this.... since she wasnt found guilty!!

but She is going to need a good sum of money to continue to protect herself from the many would-be vigilantes who are bent on taking justice into their own hands. The sheer challenge of attempting a "normal" life might be worse than the electric chair.

Whether Casey Anthony writes a book, does a TV mea culpa or allows someone to play her in a movie, she'll still have to face the court of public opinion every day, at the supermarket, at the hair salon and if she ever attempts to get a job. Her more than 1,000 days in prison awaiting trial, and serving another two weeks for lying to investigators, may look pleasant compared with the legal hurdles and the public rage she faces on the outside.
