Updates on Rory and Lexi 8/15/11

Rory is now 4!  I really just can't believe it.  She had her 4 year checkup today and that went pretty well.  Her weight was a little bit of an issue, which I knew it would be.  DH loves to feed her junk but she will eat fruits, etc. so it was good he took her.  I wanted him to hear it straight from the doc.  It's also time to start taking her to a dentist...NOT looking forward to that.  Any tips ladies??

We also had Rory's birthday party on Saturday.  It was at a place called Little Sport.  What a great time everyone had!  They shut the place down for our party, the kids had free play time in their play area which had toys galore!  From there, the kids then went in to the next room where they received 40 minutes of instruction which included shooting hoops and a kiddie obstacle course.  Afterwards was time for pizza and cake!  It was money well worth spending.  Rory had a great day and I had a stress free time!

As for Lexi, she's still not connecting very well with her occupational therapist.  They just aren't clicking for some reason.  Otherwise, I believe her OT therapy is going well.  Her DI therapy is going excellent!  She's add the following words:  Kelly (her therapist), your welcome, dada (she hasn't really been saying that before) and a few more that I cannot seem to recall right now.

Now for the sad news...Kelly (her di therapist) will be returning to her teaching job soon and after this week will no longer be Lexi's therapist.  She'd like to stay on, coming out on Saturdays if possible but I will need to call her supervisor.  I've already spoken to the supervisor once when she called to set up the new girl to come out and I'm not too thrilled with her.  The replacement they want to send will not be keeping the same schedule.  Instead of Mondays and Thursdays at 1, this girl wants Tuesdays at 12 and Thursdays at 2:30.  I've already expressed my concern as Tuesdays were never an option for us and the time on Thursday is no good since Lexi naps between 2 and 3.  She pressured me into accepting these times stating they are just trying to fill up the days and I can work it out with the therapist when she comes out.

My feelings are...I'd much rather keep Kelly one day a week then have to acclimate Lexi to someone new two days a week.  Lexi does so well with Kelly.  She's made significant progress, so much so, that we can leave her alone in the room with Kelly and she doesn't freak out.  She even said bye bye Kelly as Kelly drove away last week.

good luck its so important that they are comfortable with their therapists my daughter loved both of hers they were wonderful women and because she liked them so much she learned a lot from them so i hope they let you keep the one that you all like

I say the same it is important than children are comfortable with the therapist otherwise it seems pointless..Your welcome Dada' shes so cute ...go with your gut and keep Kelly that one day a week it makes sense.Let us know how that phone call goes .

Forgot to sat it was good you got the dh to take Rory Dads really do better when they are helped with participation so many times we do it all ..who does the shopping you can always make sure that lots healthy stuff is in the house .You know many children carry some weight and once they are active with sports etc they lose it, I know here in America now much anxiety is being felt by too much emphasis on weight gain and I am not talking obese, and the pendulum seems to be swinging in favor of eating disorders..

Oh absolutely margy! Recently he's been doing the shopping for me and he LOVES to pick up junk food, uses it as bribes, etc. It's a bad habit of his and we were in this same position a while ago. So much so, that they did a 6 month checkup to check on her weight and her bmi came down significantly. It was small changes, the pediatrician stressed NO DIETS! He's slacked off on the changes we made and I could see the weight again. She's on the top of the percentiles as it is...97th to be exact. She's always been there but right now her bmi is a 22 and she's got a belly. She'll easily lose the weight as soon as he stops with the junk...lol

As for Lexi, the good news is...we are keeping Kelly on for Satruday. Yay! We are all so excited including Lexi.

hey thats good news ..she will do so well with someone she is comfortable with ..Do they actually do check ups on weight gain in Australia ?

I'm not in Australia. I'm in the US too. NJ to be exact. We have a pretty good pediatrician and he specializes in a few areas, including weight management/obesity in kids.

hah of course you are I have been communication with melipops about her son Tristan ...she is the one down under...I saw the west berlin ...There has been much talking about weight control here in California ..I hope she does well with Kelly ..

Yeah, mel and I have talked a few times too. Weight has become a big issue in the US over the years. For me, I just want Rory to be happy, healthy, active and to eat as "right" as possible. So with her, we dont' make an "issue" of it, it's just a matter of making sure we have the right choices available to her instead of the wrong ones.

And I know Lexi will do great with Kelly and Kelly seems to like Lexi a lot too. She's only kept on a few kids for Saturdays and Lexi happens to be one of the lucky ones.
