Why I'm in the ER

Sep 11, 2011 - 11 comments

lol since so many people were worried I wanted to end the suspense and explain.

First of all, as far as I know the baby's fine - it's not baby-related, precisely.

I developed an abscess on my pubic bone thursday morning, maybe wednesday night. It was painful and irritating, but I wanted to wait until I could see my OB this upcoming week as long as it didn't get too bad....well, it's gotten more and more swollen to the point where i can't walk, or sit, or lie down without it causing pretty severe pain, which leads to nausea.

When I went ot pee earlier I went to wipe (sorry tmi) and I have to reach around the lump (which is quite large) and when I drew my arm back my wrist was covered in blood...so I had my husband look and the stupid abscess was bleeding.

SO...now, here I am...waiting..and waiting...I just want to go home and go to bed.

I remember you mentioning that at some point. I had something similar, not quite as big, but it was from my c-section incision and stitches coming through the skin, which was by far the NASTIEST thing I've ever had to deal with on myself. On ANYONE else something "gross" isn't to me, but if it's on me...YUCK!!! My skin was crawling, I was naueated, I mean it grossed me out to no end! Anyways, sorry about the rant, lol...I hope it was just a one time weird thing and it goes away...I wonder what it's from...

idk but he said it was an abscess and luckily it's started to drain on it's own...he said that them draining it is exceptionally painful.

but then he proceeded to clean it and OMG i was so close to smacking him in the back of the head that HURT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did they say what caused it or if it is pregnancy related?

Saw your post about it on FB. It's good to know that it's draining on it's own. I can't say I've ever had one myself, but from the people I've talked to they're super painful. Hopefully it heals up soon. Did they say WHY you have one?

And PS--That guy selling that car is an *** hat. I hope someone kicks his teeth in.

Thanks guys you're all the best.

Yeah he said it may be staph or it may just be a random skin infection...ingrown hair, cut, something that started it and the abscess grew from it.

So apparently he DID cut it, he just didn't tell me until he was already working on it and when I screamed "you have to stop NOW" was apparently when he was cutting it, lol...and then he was mashing it and coating it in iodine and pretty much torturing me...

that was awful, awful awful awful. I never want another one.

I have to go pick up my antibiotics tomorrow and follow-up sometime soon but argh I was seriously like >this< close to smacking the doctor in the head while he was doing it, and I definitely wasn't intending to. I think I scared him when I told him I was simultaneously wanting to smack him for hurting me and hug him for fixing me....he left and didn't come back, hahaha.

I'm not sure if it's pregnancy-related, but they said that your wacky immune system makes you less resistant when you're pregnant.

I just hope that the swelling goes down quickly because that's what's been killing me all week..there was NO position no matter what I did that didn't hurt abominably.

Oh geez Ivy that stinks.  Abby had something similar on her right thigh a few months ago.  It started out looking like a bug bite but kept getting bigger! Turned out to be a staph abscess. She had to do the antibiotics, we also got a topical cream (freakin$80 for it) and it started getting better.  Now she has a spot of dead tissue and is really ugly but all we can do is just wait for it repair itself over time as it sheds the dead layers and grows new ones.  It was extremely painful for her.  Even now it's still very tender.  Fortunately they did NOt have to drain it, it eventually did it on it's own.  I hope yours goes away soon and I hope it isn't staph - that's nasty stuff to get rid of.
