It all started Saturday early am, contractions were coming around 15-20 minutes apart and were fairly weak so I tried not to get too excited as my labor had started and stopped before.. We started renovating the kitchen.. yes i helped put in new cabinets, the day I went into labor.. Around 1:30pm, they were coming in about 5 minutes apart and were getting more painful.. We went to lunch, I kept doing my business.. Around 7pm, things were getting pretty bad and I was laying down breathing through then. I was hesitate to go the hospital because they told me I wouldnt be able to talk through them (which actually never turned out to be true so).. Around 8:30pm, I just told myself I would go and come back if needed. We arrived at the hospital and I was checked and I was 6 cm... Things seem to be going pretty smooth... We were admitted and I bounced on a ball for a bit, we played some card games. I didnt really feel like I needed anything for the pain... I was checked again and was still around 6 ccm.. The nurse said it could be because she didnt do the first check and we decided we would wait an hour for the doctor then break my water if I was still the same. While due to some c-sections, an hour turned into 3 hours.. and I was not progressing. They broke my water and started me on some oxytocin. We continued to just wait around, contractions started to pick up and were getting a bit more intense.... I thought about getting some drugs but decided to wait it out and tub... Tubbing ended up making things worst and made me really nauseous. So I decided to request an epidural because the doctor had a gap in between c-sections.. At this point, I was 8 cm dilated... and it was now 4:30am. Labor pains were not as bad as I anticipated but I was so exhausted at this point.... The epidural went great, didnt feel any of it because he numbed me during a contraction, which was hard to breathe though.. Getting the epidural was an amazing decision, I dont regret it at all. It just made it so I could relax a bit more... Only thing is I was walking really good with it then I was in the bathroom, i was escorted but then out of no where my legs went and I bashed my head off the wall, which then made me more sick.
Around 630am, I was confirmed to be fully dilated so we gave it a bit of time as my contractions were slow before pushing. I was trying to get my energy back up... I couldnt feel the cramping pain wtih contractions but could feel the pressure on my bottom so it was very clear when to push.
At 7:16am, I started pushing.. You could see the baby's head with the first push so the nurse suggested it could go fast... Seems like a common trend, things look like they would be going fast but then wouldnt go... So I am pushing and we are making slow progress... I ended up pushing for 2 hours and a bit at this point... My epidural was getting weaker but still not too bad.. My Dh was great support.. at this point, I was offered a vaccuum extraction to see if it would help. I decided to take it because it had been a long time. First push with it wasnt very successful and the OB started talking about forceps and I was like no way.... So the next push, I pushed so hard and long and It went great.. One more push and I got her head. It turned out she had a short umblical cord, which kept pushing her back in....
When they cut the cord, it exploded in my dh's face and all over his glasses, it was hilarious..
She weighed 6lbs 14ounces, and was 20 3/4 inches long...
Overall, my labor in no way sounds easy from the description but it honestly never felt hard... I would describe it as different than expected.. but it was trully the most amazing feeling when that head come out!
