Looking for some answers :-))

Hi Ladies,

I hope you are having a great weekend and good things are happening in your world! I'm feeling good, mostly tired and I have some lower back pain.  I wanted to ask those of you who are pregnant about your diet now.  Lisa has given me some great suggestions and I wanted to ask you all what exactly are you eating these days?? Specifically what do you eat for lunch?  
Also I know I've asked this before but where do you all stand with dying your hair and doing your nails?  I have gels on my nails and I did go yesterday to get them done.  My salon is very well ventilated and I'm in and out in less than 45 minutes.  
Just thought I get some ideas from those of you who are already experienced with this.

no chemicals didn't dye hair or do nails...  also think that any creams soak into your skin.. more for like medicated creams than anything else.  Try to get as much protein as possible.. good for brain function for the baby.  cheese sticks, turkey, fruit.  If you are not sick yet enjoy it and get that baby nutrients because morning sickness could kick in soon.  Don't forget to drink your milk :)

My OBGYN advised me against hair dying when i was pregnant with my son. I still highlighted my hair because it doesn't touch the roots. As far as nails, i think getting a mani/pedi is fine and at the end of the day. I'm sure gels are fine but i feel like trying to get the gels off is a process. you have to soak your fingers in that high potency nail remover and it seems so strong... not sure if maybe you should stop doing gels and just do regular polish for now. Just a thought.

I have not done my hair since I found out I was pregnant.  This is one thing I am looking foward too.  As Kris said the Dr's tell me it is ok to do.  My husband is old school & was TOTALLY AGAINST me doing it since it was so hard for us to get prego.  We didn't take any chances.

As far as eating, make sure you don't eat cole cuts (Boars head) or anything like that.  They say it's not good & you can get sick.  Tuna no more then 1x a week.

My OB had told me coloring my hair was fine, and I did so throughout my pregnancy.  I no longer wear gel nails, but I did for years and continued to have them done as well.  

As for eating.  Think high protein, low fat, lots of fiber.  So lots of lean meats, fruits & veggies.  Lots of whole grains as well.  I craved oranges and yogurt throughout and had a tough time even looking at meat, so I made sure I got extra cheese, peanut butter, things like that.  As for anything "junk foodish", my rule of thumb was everything in moderation.  So I did have a cup of coffee...1 instead of 3 in the morning.  I also let myself have 1 coke classic a day.  They are my weakness.  Congrats, this is such great news.  I'm so happy for you.

I honestly think your routine should stay the same. The only time I don't have my acrylic nails on is when I am pregnant ONLY because I usually get them long with crazy designs (lol) so I just don't bother b/c I know I have to take them off when baby gets here or get them short short (which I would

Eating- I was already watching what I ate before I got pregnant so much didn't change...Special K in the morning, Salad with some kind of protein on top (Chix breast, sirloin, fish, or even plain tuna). Dinner I would eat what ever I cooked for the Fam but a smaller portion ( I would literally weigh it out). I also snack in between meals. Peanut butter and celery, apples or saltines is my go to fav snack, Jello with whipped cream (another fav) or a bran muffin are my 3 snacks that I alternate. I've stayed steady. I started my weight loss in March at 166lbs. (I'm 5'5 and that is considered overweight for my height).  Now, I'm 4 1/2 months pregnant and I weigh 157lbs. My cheat day is still Fridays b/c I love fish and chips or clam cakes and chowder so I know I'm getting either one, 1x a week. As long as you stick to a good eating habit, if you crave something have a little bit not a lot, and drink TONS of water, you'll be fine:.....Sorry for the long winded response:)

Getting your nails is fine. I did it when i was prego with my baby girl :) She is fine and almost 2! Well good luck :)

when I was pregnant I was at the salon every 2weeks getting my hair done and nothing happen to me nor the baby, I don't have nails on but am sure that's fine diet was as fellow for breakfast eggs wit waffle, pan cake or hot cereal, a cup of tea and a glass of milk for lunch fruits like watermelon (love watermelon) mango and pineapple and for dinner anything the hubby cook, we Jamaicans so it was a lot of Jamaican food and soup.and through out the day a lot of water....good luck with yours!

I have a lot of gray in my hair, but I’m holding out until 15 weeks. After that I won’t do it as often as I did before. I may switch to highlights to help with less time in the salon. I'll probably get my toes done in a few months, and if I need my nails done for something special, I’ll bring my OPI which I know is safe. I'll take off my polish with non-acetone remover. I’m sure it doesn't matter much, but it's the little things I'll do for peace of mind.

My biggest suggestion for health is 2 liters of water a day! It's so important to stay hydrated. At 8 weeks I finally got good at it. Besides it being great to control cramps and second trimester contractions, I think it is very good for the developing placenta.   I’m not sure where I got that from, but I must’ve read it once. Plus water is pushed on us so much when we are not pregnant, It must be even more important now.

My one cup of coffee in the morning is basically 1/2 coffee 1/2 low fat milk.  I include a high fiber low sugar cereal with milk at least once a day. I try to eat a big salad once a day and at least 2 pieces of fruit. I eat chicken breast at least 4 times a week, fish once a week, eggs, and my new thing is my version of lentil chili. I easily make it with lentils (good folic) and organic thick chunky salsa. The chili and fiber was added to keep me regular as it had become a problem at 10 weeks, but I got it under control within two days. Keeping my cheese intake down to no more than 2 ounces helped too.

In the very beginning I gave into every bad craving (nervous eating). I’m still  not perfect, I give into cravings like pasta, and a few cookies if they’re  presented by someone, but I always manage to get the other stuff I mentioned  into my daily diet.  I eat whenever I am hungry (all the time), but I try to think about what would be the best choice, and what I have eaten already in that day.  I try to keep my sugar intake low to help prevent gestational diabetes. I’ve been on bed rest for a small hematoma, so I’ve gotten no exercise since 7 weeks. That is hard since I worked out hard at least 5 times a week before I got pregnant. It’s hard not to exercise or watch my calorie intake (I’ve been dieting my whole life). But now I just listen to my body and I never deny it for fear of weight gain (first time in my life).  

Sorry this is so long, but 6 ounces of coffee while pregnant hits me harder than when I drank more of it before!

Thank you ladies, you gave me some great suggestions and ideas.  I'm going to try to hold off on doing my roots for a couple of more weeks.  My obgyn said it was fine, but I guess I'm just nervous.  My nails are only done once a month too - I keep them very short.  As for exercise, I guess my Zumba is out of the question lol.  I'll try to just walk and drink lots of water.  Thank you so much for your help! xoxo

I heard that whole foods carries an organic hair dye...maybe you can look into that...some salons may offer organic also.

I always dye my hair pg or not  Its ok as long as its ventalated area . I only did a touch up for greys though . as far as eating well every pregnany i have had has been very diffrent  but I tried to eat often but little meals and I had diabeties 2 out of 7 x so I had to be on a strict low carb diet the last three. the saying is no lunch meat  I dont really know why but I did occasionally have subway I wont lie :)
