32.2 weeks with twins - delivery VERY soon

Nov 09, 2011 - 17 comments

today i had an appt at my regular ob and high risk ob....both appts shared different news and both appts broght me closer to the realization of how close these babies are....

at the regular ob i told them about all the pressure i am....it literally hurts to walk, I feel like i have knives stabbing my cervix and my insides are about to fall out at anytime....they checked my cervix again and i am now a "good" 3cm....she told me they will continue to try and stop labor up until 34 weeks and im very close to that point so i should stay off my feet as much as possible....i have an appt next week along with a NST to monitor babies

at my high risk ob i got different news......baby A is about 4 lbs 6 oz and baby B was about 3 lbs 2 oz....it was obvious that something is not correct with baby B and based on my struggles with baby B they did more scanning and found that i have what is called absence flow in the umbilicial cord to baby B....it easily explains why baby B is not gaining as much as he should be.....they are predicting that my placenta is starting to shut down on his side....they cannot confirm it until my growth scan which is 11/23 (the day before thanksgiving) but they want me back in next thursday to do an u/s and check the umbilical cord to make sure baby B is not in any further distress....

so things are def coming to an end and im nervous as can be....i just want my babies out so i can see them and know they are ok....im worried about nicu but it is looking like im just going to have to take that chance because they prob will do better outside of me than inside

so, fingers crossed that next week is smooth as can be and i get to 34 weeks at least....i had the steroid shot so there is a chance of no nicu....who knows

I pray all goes well with you.  I also had steroid shots at 30 weeks gave birth at 38 weeks.  I had 2 7lb babies & my big guy still was in NICU for 2 days but for breathing issues---nothing serious.
Stay positive & rest.  Your babies will be ok!!

Thinking about you as always, and hoping those two little boys stay put as long as it's still best for them.  You know, total placental failure was what I was diagnosed with and why Ryder was born 4lb 14oz even though he was 38 weeks.  As you know, he did fine and is fine and you sure would never know today that anything went wrong.  So the monitoring is great, and I know both your little boys are going to do just fine!!  Hang in there, xoxo

I had my baby 3 years ago and she was prem but not hugely just my placenta shut down she wighed in at 1000 grams 1kg about 2 pounds. She is a fighter and had a great growth rate after the birth, Your boys will be fine they estimate the best time for you and your babies and it sorts out. Take care I will be thinking of you! The nicu if needs be is the best place for them scary but somehow you get used to it. There always seems to be a smaller baby and you realise that the situation could be worse. Take care

Prayers and thoughts headed your way.  You're right, you are so close and those babies are going to melt your heart soon enough!  I'm glad you're getting the orders to rest, just be sure to follow them -- I know it's hard to do at this point (I'm 34.5 weeks) with so much to do but find someone to help you or just know that it can all wait.  Take care!

thanks ladies for all the comments...it is scary right now because i dont know for sure what is going on....im just trying to stay off my feet and keep cracking away at my school work....the next 2 weeks are going to be rough because right now i dont know if my placenta is shutting down....does anybody remember how long it took to diagnose that (was it 2 weeks)?......im just hoping these boys pack on weight and i cant wait to meet them and know they are both ok

In my case it wasn't discovered until my 38 week ultrasound.  I was in labor and not progressing, so they did an ultrasound and discovered that Ryder had had no growth in probably 4 weeks or so.  They also discovered I had almost no amniotic fluid.  I was ushered right into L&D and he was born by c-section about 3 hours later.  Given his weight they think it had been at least 4 weeks.  But honestly, he was fine.  5 days in NICU because of jaundice and to ensure he could regulate his body temp etc.  So if he can go that long with essentially no nutrients?  I didn't even know that was possible, but I guess it is cause he is here and he is 100% normal and healthy.  These babies are incredibly tough!

im 33 weeks now and still hanging in there....i have an ob appt with NST tomorrow and then an u/s to check baby B's umbilical flow on thursday....identical twins are considered full term between 34-36 weeks so im not super early like my daughter

i watched baby A have the hiccups last night....it was awesome to watch my belly jump with each hiccup....i have faith that baby A will be ready and wont need Nicu if born next week....baby B is a gamble because he is so tiny yet

Hiccups are a beautiful thing- it means he is practicing using his lungs!  Have they given you a steroid shot of any sort to help that along?  I am sorry you have been through so much.  Please know I am thinking good thoughts and praying for you all.  it is good they are monitoring and know what is going on.

Hang in there!

NICU is a little scary at first but after the first couple days it isnt so bad . i had my youngest daughter almost 10 weeks early due to a uterine rupture and she was in NICU for a while . they really are good with helping babies. my daughters heart kept stopping and now she is a 6 year old with a bubbly personality.  the best thing is not to stress your self over  it because it will make things worse if you do.... i will keep you and your babies in my prayers

i was given the steroid shot at 28 weeks when i was having contractions and they discovered i was already dilating....

my daughter was in the nicu last year so i am familar with the nicu and i would never badmouth them....i know they do great things....

this is my final preg and maybe i live in a bubble but i wanted everything to go right this time....i guess knowing its the last time makes it feel like there is so much more pressure and nobody has understand this :(

i dont have the crib yet, dont have bottles for the babies, dont even have clothes washed for the babies....among other things....it has been frustrating on so many levels

i went for another u/s last week to check the placenta and again showed absence flow from placenta to baby b so unless baby b somehow gains over a lb since the last growth check they are planning to deliver the babies wed or thurs

im hoping for a thanksgiving miracle right now
