? Cradle cap or dry skin??

Feb 01, 2012 - 9 comments

My little one looks like she has dry flaking skin on her forehead, eyebrows and eyelids. I saw the pediatrician for routine check up and asked him. He said to use Aveeno baby on the dry spots. I tried it but it didn't help. I read online you can get cradle cap there (her head is fine) so wondered what to use. I tried diluted baby shampoo on the area and rinsing well for the past few days. It seems a bit better but still there. Has anyone seen this and have any suggestions??

my lil guy had very dry skin and we were told to use cetaphil...it worked on his skin...if it appears on her head, u can use vaseline which worked nicely too..or some olive oil...then wash it out.
use the cetaphil a few times a day....good luck!

And also cod liver oil will do it, its thick and stick to the area , use a fine tooth comb or a clean finger nail..

I feel better that meli also used olive oil.  I did the same...he had dry skin all over his body actually.  We live in a very cold, dry climate.  I found that most of the commercial lotions almost seemed to make things worse.  Olive oil was and is great! Good luck.

My little guy had it too.   Still does at almost 10 months.   turns out he has spots of eczema.    We use Eucurin ( I think that's how its spelled), or any of the T-Fal shampoos.

Thanks everyone. I'll try those. Has anyone tried baby oil (mineral oil) and would this work also? We also have a humidifier in the room as its winter here and can get dry. Hopefully it clears up.

I had the same issue with my Mason... I used coconut oil. It comes as a solid but you rub it between your hands and turns to oil. It's organic plus it smells great. The dry skin was gone a 2 days. I also use Dove sensitive bar soap for baths instead of all the baby products which are really harsh for newborn skin.
