I'm on Modified bed rest from here on out.....

Feb 22, 2012 - 12 comments

Last night I had really bad heartburn and the mylanta/tums just was not working.  So I spent the entire night dealing with it but that wasn't the only problem.
For the last several days I noticed my feet and ankles starting to swell up.  But yesterday it was so bad that it was actually painful to walk. So I decided to call the obgyn again this morning mainly to ask again about taking something stronger to help the heartburn.  Once again, she told me no.  I was so furious I was ready to explode.  I started to look for another obgyn but then my mom said I think you should call her back to tell her about your ankles and feet.  I didn't want to be bothered anymore with her or the staff but I also spoke with some of my good friends on here and they also felt it was best to have her check it.  So I called her back and got an appt for this afternoon.
Well because  I am swelling up so early in the pregnancy she felt it was time for me to start modify bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy.  My blood pressure was fine today, but she doesn't want  me driving or working anymore.  I asked her if I could work from home and she said as long as I was sitting down with my feet up I could do that.  So as soon as I got home I called my manager and she felt that It wouldn't be a problem, she would call me in the morning with a schedule.  Thank God! I couldn't afford stop working right now.  So I'm so thankful they will work with me.  I have to do a 24 hour urine test and they did a baseline bloodwork to have it as I progress to compare for preclampsia.
In the meantime, I'm back to feeling unsure about changing obgyns now.  I'm all confused lol.  I feel too tired to start all over with another doctor but not thrilled with this office either.  She was ok today better than my last visit.  My next appt is 3/10 with my actual doctor.  I also looked into new doctors today.  I called the hospital closer to me for some referrals.  So not sure what to do now.
I didn't bother asking her again about the heartburn.  Honestly so many of you have told me your doctors have approved one medicine or another, my sister was able to take nexium during her pregnancy.  I may just get the otc pepsid and try that.  I think I'm nervous about everything right now, I am already using the nebulizer with albuterol which I know is a class C.  I only use it once a day, lately sometimes once every couple of days.
Anyway, I'm still have trouble with my ultrasound pictures so I'll try to figure that one out.  And of course as I am sitting here the heartburn is starting to kick in.  Ugh.  So that's the story.  I'm trying to keep up with everyone as I get one here.  I'm just so tired all the time.  I want to right a book what no one told me about pregnancy lol.  I'm the biggest complainer ever now lol.  No one told me it would be like this!! Of course to be honest with you ladies, I don't handle pain or discomfort very well under normal circumstances plus I do believe my age and the stupid asthma is making me feel worse.  I know I have to push through though.  I'm trying.

Did you have bad acid reflux before pregnancy if so you may be able to take protonix. I take it every morning  and it's amazing stuff. It also says it's safe to take while pregnant.

FDA pregnancy category B. Protonix is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Pantoprazole can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use Protonix without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

I hope everything gets better for you very soon.

I know how you feel about the heartburn. I had the same problem with my son. And when he came out BALD, that didn't make it worth it lol. I found frequent sips on ice cold milk would help me get through a movie if I wanted.

I had some issues while pg and they sent me to a specialist- gastroenterologist.  Maybe you need a specialist- not just an ob/gyn!  I am so sorry you are going through this.

Have you ever tried Apple Cider Vinegar? Not a drug, so no risk to the baby. You just take 8 oz of water, mix in 1 tbsp of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and 1/4 tsp of baking soda. I remember when my acid reflux was at its worst about 3 years ago. I couldn't even afford my Prevacid prescription ($160/mo at the time), so I found the ACV home remedy on the internet. (Everywhere I read, people were raving about it!) So I thought "What the heck!" And it WORKED! Within about 5 minutes! Much better than any acid blocker! I still do it now. But no doctor will ever tell you about it, because it's not a drug that they get paid from the drug companies to push! You should totally give it a try! I think you'll be so glad you did!

LOL, don't worry about complaining, pregnancy  is beautiful and sooo sooo wanted, but in reality....ALOT of the symptoms SUCK!   I'm there with you, UGH I'm just not a good pregnant woman....I bloated, I swelled, I was sick all the time, I waddled...and complained alot.....I somehow missed that whole "glowing" stage everyone talks about.   BUT with all that being said....its so worth really really is.    Here I am again now, unexpectantly and I'm PRAYING for the symptoms to pick up in intensity.    I went thru the emotions of complete shock, then acceptance and finally I realized this weekend how much I am already in love with my new little bean.    My symptoms seemed to have gotten better this weekend so that sent me into a panic.      So when you're feeling your worst....just try to remember how much is going on inside you and how so many people would give almost anything to be where you are right now.

I know it still *****!   But I used to try to think about the women still trying to get pg and somehow it made me get thru that day a little easier.     I have a whole list of safe medications that you can take which was given to me by my OB....I'll try to find it and get it to you, but a know there were a couple of OTC medications for heartburn.     Hopefully you will be thru this stage quickly.   I think it lasted up to the 16th week for me, but then I started feeling alot better.

Thank you ladies!  The heartburn seems to be better than it was last week thankfully.  I appreciate all your helpful hints and advice.  I'm just getting ready to start my first day working from home.  Hopefully it will go quickly and peacefully. lol.  I did finally post some pics of the last sono and my bump.

Retta483- I did take pepsid last week for a few days and it did help better than the tums!

Alexis- I'm with you, I'm definitely not a good pregnant woman either.  I am trying to keep my focus on the beautiful boys I will have in a few months!  I know many are still trying to get pregnant so I'm so grateful I am here.  Thank you if you can find that list that would be great! And CONGRATS TO YOU!  It's a nice surprise!

Sherri - I haven't tried the apple cider but thanks for the tip! I will give it a try, its great if it works rather than taking any meds!
