Chocolate Great for Your Skin

Oct 17, 2008 - 8 comments

I Thought everyone should know this, and I just love cocoa. By the end of winter my skin should look like a new born babies right. Only thing is my butt will look like two of my kids bouncy balls. Oh well!

Chocolate: Great for Your Skin
Our Most Popular Tips »
Think chocolate is one of the worst things for your skin? Think again.

RealAge skin expert, Dr. Amy Wechsler, has a recipe for hot chocolate that can make your skin glow.

Dark Is Key
In one study, just 6 weeks of a daily dose of cocoa made skin smoother, better hydrated, and less sun sensitive. And 12 weeks did even more. All thanks to the skin-boosting antioxidants in cocoa, called flavonols. But it’s got to be dark chocolate, according to Wechsler. "Skip cocoa mixes, which don't have the same flavonol levels, and go for the real thing: dark, unadulterated cacao powder that contains 70 percent or more cacao," she writes in her new book, The Mind-Beauty Connection. Here's her to-die-for recipe (actually, it’s her husband Harry's!):

Harry's Super Simple, Healthy Hot Cocoa
The secret to this easy recipe? Heat it slowly. Slow heat helps release the antioxidants.

1 1/2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder with 70% or more cacao (such as Scharffen Berger natural cocoa powder or Ghirardelli unsweetened cocoa)
2 teaspoons sugar
Pinch of salt
1 cup skim or low-fat milk

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and heat gently (do not let it boil), stirring frequently, until cocoa is just beginning to steam. Pour into a mug and enjoy.

I'd like to take the positive approach and assume the chocolate would help my butt skin too.  However, not sure what it will do for the size of said butt!  I will have to try this simple but good recipe!

I have always told my grandkids that chocolate was on the food pyramid and you have to have at least one serving per day!
Now maybe they will believe me. (maybe I won't catch so much **** about giving it to them either!)

Oh... you're never going to believe this, but when I read the topic, I thought you were going to tell us to smear chocolate somewhere !!! Which would have been o.k. too...

That sounds really good .. you ought to post this on the "Healthy Eating"  Forum.. They will love you for it !

Well Sandy, I guess if you really wanted to you could. Kind of kinky, but it sounds kinda fun. Whip cream and chocolate.

OK, this whole thing inspired a chocolate craving.  I was a good girl and went out for a 3 km walk over lunch.  Came home, couldn't take it any more, and made the hot chocolate.  No whip cream.  Delish!

For once something I like is good.  Green tea is so disgusting to me, but I choke it down to try to be healthy.  Hot cocoa I can enjoy rather than endure!  Marie
