NEW ENTRY, I DID A CERVIX CHECK....IDEAS????!!

Apr 30, 2012 - 16 comments

So i just took a shower and decided to do a cervix check, mainly because my friend had said to for the fact i am pretty high pain tolerance, i can be in labor and not scream, but break a nail i am dying LOL anyways, so i checked it and this is what i found:::

37 weeks & 2 days
cervix is pretty high or just the belly is too much in the way,  i did struggle a bit trying to get up there LOL
cervix is pretty soft and def feel a opening, it is quite squishy in there, but one thing stood out kinda freaked me out but i can feel a "balloon" in the opening of my cervix, maybe the water bag??? IDK. but it is def like a lil small water balloon feeling and soft/squishy all together, and alot of white mucous which is normal for me, but normally its watery this is more like my pre pregnancy when i had the thick stretchy kind..eew . but anyways i cant feel passed the lil balloon thingy i dont want to push it or mess with it more really....but i can feel the cervix is open obviously cuz that thing is just chilling there...not sure if it is water bag or something else..i have NO idea.....someone have any insight on this?

Softness is effacement. Probably babys head is sitting low and that's probably the balloon like you are feeling which means the amniotic sack also! You could be at a 1 in dilation. When will you go to the dr to find out?

Could it just be a bartholin cyst??  I can't image the amniotic sac protruding out like that. Ask your doc at the next appt. Im curious now!  Lol

Oh and i felt my cervix a couple weeks ago out of curiosity and it was a lot softer than i thought it would be at this point. Not sure what to make of that since i know Im nowhere near labor. It felt like i was ovulating.

Yes, i called her (midwife) eventually because it was staying on my mind and she explained it like this::: imagine a big balloon in your uterus, at the end 0f the balloon it has a knot , which keeps baby from falling out until proper time of delivery, the knot stays up inside just up until labor releases, (either mucous plug or could possibly be the bag of waters) getting ready to POP like a balloon naturally does....it made sense that way. But i have my appt on May3rd, and i will get checked by her then to be sure, so 2 more days to go..She did tell me to stop checking since in these last stages it can cause infection especially if i truly was to be in labor,

personally i have never lost my "plug" or had my water break until i was at the hospital. and i don't feel contractions really until i am about 6cm which could be a problem, since it is about 45 minutes to the hospital for me, and right now they have the exit closed off and traffic has been backed up at a 2 mile radius..fun stuff huh.so it is just trying to figure out my body and knowing truly when to go in!!

@ im_jus_saying:::oooh it put you in labor huh???? hmm maybe ill keep checkin then hehe. And yeah girl we are far from there now, we was in Tacoma but moved a bit away to where my man works so we dont got to pay so much for gas and daily bridge.  and i feel contractions but not strong llike...to me they just feel like BH's until i get farther along then i feel it and get epidurals, the thing i do feel which i know it is close is a lot pressure and like a really sharp feeling in the cervix. . . and i never had my water break on its own i always wanted to experience it though LOL just to have a story :p

@Moma_Cher:::: and yeah i still cant believe i haven't been checked since 13 weeks along, i remember before with my other pregnancies getting a cervix check every week.....but i haven't been to doc since last month and normally i would be going every week by now!! i think it was like 3 appointments every two weeks, then 3 appointments every week or until u deliver??.....but not this place! >.<

I've never had my cervix checked at alll  during pregnancy, only when in labour, and my last four, my waters have broken first then labour has started about an hour later, which for me is excellent as soon as they break, we are in the car and driving, our hospital is an hour away and its a very windy coastal road, which at the best of times takes around an hour, coupled with the continuous road works and tourists on the road it can be abit of a worry lol :)

i guess everywhere is different, but i am used to living in big city, where the hospital was 5 minutes away and now it is far away and we have to cross the bridge, and tolls we have to pay.....and here they always check the cervix for me, so for this midwife not too is very different for me, i like to be checked and monitored so i know my child is safe while i carry him/her inside,  i am doing my job by caring for my child i would hope the provider i choose would feel the same and i could be able to discuss my fears with her etc, but she is also like my last Doc, in a rush...and my water never has broken until way after i am in hospital. Be quite a change if it did now! I would like to experience though so i am glad this midwife has told me i get to go all natural unless i pass my due date.....hopefully it all goes well, i do deliver quite fast though. Longest labor (contractions, pushing all of it) was 6 hours and that was induced. .

My doctor's office doesn't check the cervix until the last month of the third trimester.  They say that checking it before that can introduce bacteria, etc. into the cervix and cause issues.  I'm actually suprised that your previous doctors checked you at every appointment.  Unless you're at risk or showing signs of pre-term labor, I don't think it's necessary.  For as far along as you are now though, I think you should be checked at every visit to see if you're progressing, etc.  And as far as how often they are seeing you, my doctor's office does monthly visits for the first two trimesters then goes to every other week for the third trimester and then every week once you reach 38 weeks.  I went to almost 42 weeks with my son, so i saw A LOT of them at the end! lol

I hope this helps put your concerns to rest a little.  Hopefully baby Izacc will make his appearance soon and you can stop worrying... at least over the pregnancy, then you can shift it to baby worry! :)

well that's what i mean the last trimester i got checked.....in the beginning they checked it and at the end....but this lady here wont, i had to ask her too...i just figured being 37 weeks she would check me and since i hadn't seen her in a month that she would. now i am going every week, but i only have 2 appt's left now. and never went the every 2 weeks like with my other pregnancies, i been going every month and starting this week every week..which is only 2 appt's and 1 ultrasound. And i wont be seeing my midwife, i will be seeing someone else, as she is all booked up. So i wont see her until i deliver IF she is even going to be there....now the reason why i hadn't gone in a month was because she was on vacation...

oh and with my last 2 pregnancies , i did get checked a lot due to i would bleed at times a lot and  i would always start contracting around 30 weeks, and was in hospital  more than home, now this one i haven't been to the hospital yet!

boy i hope i don't go to 42 weeks!!!

Well, that explains why your doctors were checking you more with your previous pregnancy - if you were having bleeding and contractions!

That stinks that your next appointments aren't with your midwife.  I thought that was one of the points of going to a midwife was more consistant care. :(  Hopefully she'll at least be there for the birth!

And I wouldn't wish 42 weeks on anyone, but especially not you!  You deserve to deliver SOON! :-D

well she has A LOT of patients and i was supposed to have made all my appt's in the beginning and i didn't i had only made appts up until 34 weeks, then i went to make new ones and she was on vacation then all booked up a lot of babies coming in May!!! She is very good i will give her that, but she is over loaded and i always seem to have my appts when she is running 30 mins behind..boo....and yeah more constent care is what i was aiming for, but she is busy, for one she is the ONLY one who speaks spanish in this womans clinic and the majority are of spanish speaking language here, for reason 2 she is midwife/obgyn also works with cancer patients such as cervical cancer etc, female issues...yadda yadda, and she works at the hospital where i am delivering at and also a birthing inn where i wanted to go at first ut may is full so i have the hospital....so i cant complain she is a busy woman and just had her baby as well.....but....i do think as a midwife/many other titles, she should be there for her patients or not take on so many.....also she has been on practice for years and has many great reviews....and i have heard in case o c sections she does wonderful work and leaves very little scarring. also received various awards and honor rolls and never once been sanctioned. i mean i have alot of good things about her but you know how as a n 'individual" i would like to see more one on one time and not be so rushed but i do also understand why...and girl i am ready anytime!!!! i dont think they would let me go to 42 weeks anyways haha then again she dont believe in inducing...THANKS
