Today I saw a mockingbird and it reminded me of you. That memory of when you found the baby that fell out of its nest, and you brought a little handful of cheeping pinfeathers, bug eyes, and oversized beak to me. Little did we know at the time it should have been left in the grass; it's parents were nearby but we figured that out days later. You knew I could take care of it though. I fed it baby bird food and raised it into a full-fledged adult and taught it to fly. We called him Atticus, after the character from "To Kill a Mockingbird."
I saw a mockingbird hopping around in the grass today. It watched me for a moment as I walked by and thought of you. Then it flew away into the sunshine.
Just like you.
I miss you, Mom. But I am finding moments that bring a smile to my face when I think of you and what a wonderful mom I know I'll always have.
