Clomid or Injectables?

Dec 08, 2008 - 4 comments

Well, here it is, December already. As of today the 8th I am on cycle day 16 I believe. I think I may have O'd sometime yesterday. Had pain in my left side Sat. and Sun. Anyways... some of you know my story, some don't.
I have PCOS and endo. About 4 years ago, they took out 1/2 my right ovary dut to endo but it's still functional - most of the time lol!
We started trying again in May 2007, and with no success naturally, we went back to our RE (Sept.). I was started on Clomid 25 mg and a pill (don't remember the name) to supress excess testosterone due to PCOS. Also, recieving 2 IUI's every cycle and taking progesterone supp. After months (April 2008) I finally had a +, with a beta of 11. Sadly, it went down, down, down.  Somewhere in there I was bumped to 50 mg clomid.
We took a break with our last IUI being in August of this year. Had a goal to lose 20 lbs, in which I have accomplished losing between 14-15 lbs - it fluctuates day to day.

So now the question is - Go back to clomid and give it another shot for a set amount of time (say 2 months?) or just go straight to injectables? I just don't want to end up with a ton of babies in there! Twins is fine... more than triplets, IDK lol!!
Anyone's input is welcome!

Thank you all for your continuing support for the past year - I know I haven't been around much lately but we have been sooooo busy. It's nice now that things have quieted down. I don't know what to do with myself lol!!

yeah injects had indeed give u a ton of babies  :))) lol... i think keep that as a second resort... try femara/clomid for a cycle or two and then switch to injects if it doesn't work out. Someone I knew had 2 kids and got a ton of cysts with injects and ended up with twins. but she was looking 6 months preggo in her first month itself cos her cysts were of the size of a grapefruit...and her ovary got over stimulated with injects.
FX for u nikki :)

Go straight to injections girl! :) As soon as af shows, due on Wednesday, we start our first round of Follistim on CD 3! Woo  hoo!!! :) We did 5 rounds of clomid, 3 with iui, all bfn. I'm done with clomid! We did a natural cycle this round before moving on to injections, to give my body some time off meds. It was the game plan anyways, but as it turned out, I ended up having a cyst on my left ovary. We were still able to try naturally though, but i've been cramping the past few days, more today, so I wish it would just hurry up and come! Congrats on losing the weight! That's a great accomplishment! :) Let me know what you decide, but good luck on your natural cycle, and welcome to the 2ww! :)

Anyone give me a round about on how much injetables cost? Especially with the economy and all.....
I may try 1 or 2 more rounds of Clomid and see what that does, maybe the time off of ALL meds did the trick lol

Depends on the meds and your pharmacy.  Follistim is a LOT cheaper than Gonal-F, for example.  Also, many pharmacies give you a discount if you pay out of pocket.
Good luck!
