thyroid surgery

Well I finally had my thyroidectomy on 2/18/08 and all went well.  I stayed in the hospital for 24 hours and was released without any problems.  I was originally worried that I had picked the wrong doc to do my surgery because he was an ENT and not a general surgeon but he did a wonderful job.  I did not have any voice disturbances or any calcium problems from the surgery.  Although I did have to go to the ER 4 days post surgery because of abdominal and chest pains.  They couldn't find anything wrong and we just accounted it to the pain meds causing constipation.  Now I am 6 days post surgery and I am going to have to get into the doc's office a few days early because I have alot of swelling and pain right above the incision in my neck.  The swelling is so bad that I have to keep my head leaned in a forward position because I feel like I'm going to rip the stitches out if I try to straighten my head at all.  I don't know if this is normal, I'm asuming it's not.  I got the biopsy report back because I work in the medical field and have access to the hospital records, the report showed papillary carcinoma and says there was no vascular invasion identified but then it says there were 3 reactive lymph nodes.  I haven't been able to discuss these finding with the doc yet so I am concerned as to whether I will have to have a dose of radiation.  If anyone has any input on this, I would love to hear from you.  Thanks
