im having a bad day i just got a new job and my body isnt used to all the physical activity so im in a lot of pain and my doc is absolutely no help but then hes a quack anyway i have a better word for him but its not appropriate (sorry bout the spelling im not that good and i have no idea how to use my spell check on this site) for me to say here. my doctor never wants to help me and expects way to much from me he is actually expecting me to work all day without meds cause he refuses to fill my pain meds till the day they run out exactly and that leaves me with only one pill that day til i can get out of work and get to the pharmacy that means i have to go 10 hours without my pain meds i just dont know what im gonna do and i cant be late or call out cuz i just got the job and wed is only going to be my 4th day. i feel so lost and helpless

HI....sorry u r so frustrated....consider finding a dr that will work with u. Check ur insurance and see what u need to do to locate a new dr...also check to see if the drs work with ur insurance r accepting new patients!!

Try OTCM if possible the day ur meds run out.

Good luck

What are the pain meds for?? It sounds like you may have an addiction, your Doctor is regulated by the board of pharmecueticals and cannot provide you with more medication (narcotics) than what he is prescribing.

You sound very bitter about the fact that your Doctor is not going beyond what he is permitted to do. If you really feel that your issue is not an addiction to pain medication then maybe you are seeking attention from the wrong doctor.

Hi Step..is there any way you can get a new doctor? yours sounds so cruel..or another possibility would be a pain managment doctor..when they determine your ligit they are very generous with painmeds..I couldnt imagine working 10 hrs after being though all that you have and not having it wrack your body with pain..

I undrstand you feel lost and hopeless but remember you are paying your doctor so he works for you,,fire him..find a better one...theres plenty out there..my doctor does believe me yet he will not increase my pain meds for nothing..so I find ,my self going to er when things are bad.I actually need about twice the meds he gives..I am considering going to a pain management clinic..they make you sign papers you cant get pain medsfrom any other doctor..or go to er for pain meds

anyways know that I care..wish I could help more..its amazing but over time you find(atleast I did) more understanding..compasion on here from your cyber friends than you do your real friends and family

I am sorry if I come across as overly blunt or cold .... It is not my intention. But I have read several of your posts, and you have repeatedly referred to your MD as a "quack" .... I just want to make mention of the fact that med school is no easy feat ... and while you dont agree with his diagnosis, it is likely just a difference in opinion about diagnosis and treatment.

You should find yourself another MD that you feel comfortable with ... or seek help from a smaller medical clinic until you are able to find a more permanant solution. And dont forget to speak up, when you disagree with your doctor, say so. Its your body, and if you dont look out for you no one else will.

As for being addicted .... please dont take offence to that, it is not a judgement at all. I personally have seen cases like this where addiction is problem, so I just wanted mention it.

At any rate, I hope that you find a fix for your problem. No body wants to be in pain, nor should they have to be.

As you can see above it was not at all an accusation .... it was a question!!! And you shoudl read the notes fully before accusing me of being a certain way as well!!! And being a person who has dealt with pain med addiction, sometimes it is hard for a person to see that they have an addiction, as it is overshadowed by the pain. I think you jumped the gun a bit here. There was no offence intended, which again was duelly noted above!

Have a nice day.

actually when you where typing your 6 min ago note I was typing my 5 min ago note we sent them very close to the same time I did not have the availabilty to read your note prior to hitting send for mine why because it wasnt there..I know this girl and shes been through stuff that isnt even listed on her profile..." it sound like you have an addiction" thats what I read from your first letter..then you musta rethought and tried to be a bit kinder..good for you.

I am in constant pain, I am on neurontin but not pain meds right now.  Because so many have abused the system many docs are gun shy about prescribing them.  This is often the case in my area.  My pain has reached the point that my quality of life is not there.  I believe that is something to be considered.  Also, when in chronic pain it affects other physical areas.  My pain goes hand in hand with my blood pressure, high pain=high blood pressure.  Then you also have the depression issues, the more pain the more depressed which also leads to sleep problems.  It all is a viscious cycle!
I myself am shopping for a new doctor as my current one does not believe in narcotics for pain control and I feel I have reached a point in my life that it is either better manage the pain or end it all.
I hope that you consider changing doctors or having a real heart to heart with your current doctor.  Good Luck!

There are physicians who specialize in pain management. Pain management is an anesthesiology sub specialty. Find one.

Can you get a massage until your prescription is refilled ? Do you think that would help your pain ? There are also creams that you may want to try in the meantime and, of course, over the counter medications. I would also consider calling around and definitely take the above poster's advice and try seeing someone who specializes in pain management.

Here are some things that may help... if not now, then in the future:

I am not an addict i receive pain meds for many conditions that you could never imagine having and if you did or do have the same conditions then i apologize and hope you have better luck than i do at finding someone who listens to you. As for my doctor he is a RESIDENT and from SOUTH AFRICA i did not choose him as my doc every three years i get assigned a new one in training they are supervised by the attendings and for the one who didnt take the time to read my journal entry correctly i have enough meds to go through tuesday but only enough for one dose on wed since i just got the new job they didnt plan on me not being able to get to the pharmacy in the am now i have to go in the pm instead i tried to explain this to my doc but he DOESNT LISTEN so i called his boss and now i get to pick it up on TUE after 8pm. IF IT WAS BECAUSE I RAN OUT EARLY as you seem to think i wouldnt have been able to convince the attending to let me go on tuesday HE relized that my doc was out of line AND RECTIFIED MY PROBLEM i am currently trying to get a new urologist and a new doctor as for pain management docs not an option till after i see the new urologist. i want to say thanx for all the good advice and i plan on trying that massage thanx its a good idea and THANKYOU CHERIE for sticking up for me your a real friend

Frustrated,

I just ready your journal and am so sorry you have gone thru this with your doctor, but so glad you have an answer.  Suffering from the pain of constant kidney stones is an extremely strong person and being without your meds and having to perform your new job is a double whammy that is not deserved of anybody, yet your doc didn't bother to "hear you".

Those who have walked in your shoes know that kidney stone pain is oftentimes faked  pain in the ER for meds, yet your condition is confirmed and is in need of the meds, and nobody has doubt of the necessity, but they just don't take the time to *listen* to the circumstances. What a shame.

Does Toradel help at all for those times inbetween or when the narcotic is not necessary?  I've heard many with MSK (medullary sponge kidney) use that in suppository form for relief sometimes?  I've never used it so cannot really help you but wanted to mention it.  I've been lucky that NSAID's usually work for me when needed on a continuous basis.

Well I have to say Congratulations on grabbing yourself a job, and well done for getting on with your life and not with your illness! I admire you, I can see your frustrations all too well, I have the same problem sometimes if I have to see a Locum Doc, but I have a full time job being ill, so I don't work, but, I can imagine the stress of not having enough meds can cause, I have cognative probs so when I get low on meds, doesn't matter what, could be diuretics, could be lansoperozole it may be narcotics I am sent reeling when I start to get low, so I can see where you're you are! Must just say again, good on ya for getting that job, hope your enjoying it and doing something you want to do!

good for you, going over the resident's head and getting the problem taken care of...sometimes I think they forget they are dealing with humans that truly have pain...I have never had good luck with a pain clinic..I now go to a regular doctor who prescribes narcotics and understands my pain...I feel like at the pain clinics you are like cattle being herded...does that make sense? anyway will stop rambling...I am glad you got everything straightened out..congrats on your new job...and please ignore the ignorate...take care

Been there, done that!!!  This frustrates me...that doctor's can't seem to understand...they don't walk in our shoes!!!!  I post a lot on the Heart Rhythm Community...My frustration is with doctor's fighting over which medications to give me, for a persistent and troublesome heart problem, made worse by the psych condition that I being treated for due to abuse in my past and most recent present.   Yep, we are humans, and deserve to be treated that way.  Just as I need my meds. to survive...you need yours.  Pain is pain however you look at it!  We deserve better from our care providers...if they only understood.

sorry for the ranting and bantering.

Most of all congratulations on your new job!  I wish you much luck, and hope they get you on some good pain meds./management....so deserve it!

Frustrated. I don't think you sound, like you are having a problem with addiction. I think from what you said ,you really do need another doctor. You said your doctor was a quack! I feel like  calling my doctor names too. I know you don't mean he is not educated. You are angry and in pain and you feel like calling him names. No better place to do it, without judgment than this site. Better here than to him . haha I feel like calling my doctor,my daughters, a nurse, the mailman. Doesn't matter . when I am in pain I am mad at the world. It is good to be able to vent once in awhile. Pain is horrible. The first problem with people in pain,is the feeling that no one believes them. This is horrible !l. You know if you have pain. It is your right ,to have pain medication. Educated people know that ,people with pain rarely get addicted. The have physical dependence, which is normal. Our body naturally will also build up a tolerance and you will have the dose increased, I am a member of the Pain foundation. It is an excellent program, that sends you alot of information about pain and pain management. They alos tell you your RIGHTS to have pain meds. You should not be in PAIN. I'll write more later.... P.S. Feel free to vent and to write what you want or feel on this site. I think that is what this site is for. Go for it Girl! Say  what think, get it out. It's good for you.

I also wanted to mention, you really sound like you need to be seen by a pain specialist. I go and it took me awhile to find the right one. I have one now and he doesn't have a problem prescribing narcotics for pain. When you want to go to a pain specialist have your primary doctor refer you to him. It is much better than going without a referral. Msmarty  P.S. This is just a suggestion. Follow your instincts on what you need and go get it done. You deserve it.No one deserves to live in pain!

To frustrated and all her supporters

I am so glad frustrated got the support she needed from all of you.  One post I read made me turn red, and I had a loss for words on how to respond.  The proper support at the right time is essential; especially when one says they should just give up.

I couldn't believe it, but I did give up and go for Disability.  I needed to.  My co-workers tried to help, but our job was too much for them to "carry" me and get the rest of our work done.  They came to me and asked me to consider Disability.  Enough of that.

I am so proud of all of you.  I am honored to have found an online Community such as this.  I must have had one coming.

Frustrated.... keep it up.  Remember all of your successes if you ever feel kicked like this again.

Be Blessed
