So far journaling has only made me aware of me being a failure

don't give up! look through your journal and make self notes of what you can do without! (example: that bar of chocolate and that packet of crisps!) and swap them  with healthy snacks. its not easy but if you stick to small things you can do it. (try selecting a particular food and sticking to not eating it for 10 days! after that you probably won't even want to eat it! trust me, this really helps.
