Abandoned Pups in West Houston - Need Foster Care and Adoption

Feb 13, 2009 - 10 comments

dog rescue

Have a look at the pups in this photo.  The were dumped in a box by the side of a road in southwest Houston.  The girl who took custody of them had them dewormed and bathed them with flea shampoo.  She cannot keep them for long and will have to take them to Animal Control in a couple more days.  Every rescue group she's contacted is full, and Animal Control is notorious for euthanizing in less than 3 days.

If anyone can adopt or foster one of these pups, please send me a PM and I'll put you in contact with the girl who has them.

Oh, they're precious! I just got a whole litter of abandoned pups into homes and a no-kill shelter. It took about a week and a half of hard work, but it's all good now. All seven of them have been safely placed, one being with me (yeah, I've come to realize I must have a subconscious desire to turn my home into a kennel/aviary).
It's so sad and disgusting that people dump animals, especially the most vulnerable--puppies and kittens. I wish we could find more ways to open and fund rescue shelters and promote better education and more affordable means for spay/neuter. I'm so glad there are programs like these in place already, but I just wish there were more so that problems like this could be significantly reduced.
I hope your friend can find foster homes for all these little ones, and I pray that all of them will find forever homes. God bless your friend for doing what she can to help.

Jaybay, what about Houston SPCA?  They're the ones who do the Animal Planet program Animal Cops - Houston.  They have a GIGANTIC shelter and since these puppies are healthy, they ought to be able to find homes for them in no time at all.  I know they also have an extensive foster home network.  If you go to the Animal Planet site it will give you contact numbers and stuff.  It's worth a try!

I just received an update - ALL the pups are either adopted or fostered.  Hooray!!!!  :-D

Ghilly - we offered to take the pups to the SPCA ourselves if needed.  That's where we found Maggie (my avatar pic) and you're right, it's a fantastic facility.

Its funny because we are looking for a puppy or even an adult dog like them and its so hard to find anything. I ended up buying a puggle because the shelters here make it like ur adopting a child from a 3rd world country. We have 4 kids in the house and of course my puggle and alot of the places dont want to adopt out to people with kids.

Sunny, it's an unfortunate fact of life these days that lawsuits abound where pet adoption is concerned.  Sadly, too many people look at dogs as little more than a stuffed toy that needs feeding once in while.  As a society, we all pay for it through increased scrutiny of adoptive homes and the fees required for those adoptions.

I'm glad to hear you finally found a suitable dog for your family and hope you follow through with proper training and education of your children on how to deal with dogs and their behavior.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with admitting you don't know what to do, but owners have a responsibility to their dogs and everyone else in the household of learning about proper care and training of any pet.  Our pets are sentient beings, and meeting their basic needs makes life so much more agreeable for all concerned.  :-)

I'm so happy that those adorable puppies have found homes.  One of my dogs was abandoned on the street with her litter mates at about 4 wks old.   I breaks my heart to see helpless dog and cats who have no one.

Sunnyd210.....I adopted a puggle puppy from the shelter.....he's really cute but definately has a mind of his own!
