After weeks and a visit last week with my Obe's resident who diagnosed yeast down there and gave canestin (which didn't work), finally saw my Obe and she agreed yesterday that I do have a yeast infection (breast - ductal, vaginal, and I suspect systemic). "maybe my resident hasn't seen this before". Hope she told her better!
Obe told me to stop breastfeeding for a week (pump only). Told her no way will my baby get formula. She told me to pump a lot in advance. Told her I don't have enough milk for that, only just have enough for baby's day to day requirements and takes a long time to get frozen stores. Finally she asked me just not to feed for 6 hours after taking the med. Then I checked on the drug and yes, it gets into breast milk, but it is approved for fungal infections in neonates (new born babies), and so I think no problem to take it anyway.
asked her about me and baby cross infecting eachother. SHe said that if baby doesn't have symptoms she's probably ok. And I'm not sure she doesn't have symptoms.... I think she may have diarrhoea.
Shame to overrule my doc, but I disagree from everything I've read, so I'm treating baby with Daktarin oral gel as well.... as me taking the meds...
So I'm on 3 doses of fluconazole. 3 days apart. Hope this works! From what I've seen on-line this would be satisfactory for vaginal yeast (1 dose would normally do it, but I tried that already myself 2 weeks ago and it didn't make a dent), but not likely to work for ductal yeast, which apparently may require daily treatment for several weeks.
Well, will see. IF the 3 doses don't work guess we can try a more intensive dosing regime (very expensive though).... and in the meantime I can only hope that the pain reduces. Feels like gravel coming out my **** when she feeds. In addition to shooting pains and burning aching sensations....
