chronic pancreatitis

Mar 31, 2008 - 0 comments

I am now 61 years old and have chronic pancreatitis, fibromyalgia, IBS, GERD, asthma and problems with both the back and hips. I have had numerous surgeries due to the pancreas and liver. I have been on very strong meds for several years. Recently I was in a really bad situation partly due to my insurance company. I take opiate meds for pain. The last year and 1/2  that included Methadone and Fentanyl lollipops as well as other meds for nausea etc. When I took my regularr RX to the pharmacy to have it filled, they said that I needed a new authorization from my pain management docs. After fighting with everyone to get that, they told me that it would not be reviewed by the insurance for 4 days (this was after a week of waiting to get the authorization). By this time I have no meds. They told me to call my doc for an emergency authorization to get it done NOW! They then told me after 24 hours more that it was too expensive and they wouldn't be filling it. This is after 1 1/2 yrs on this medication. This was on Good Friday before Easter! I went through a horrible withdrawal (throwing up, pain, muscle cramps, shivering and more). When I finally saw my doc after the long weekend I was told that since I had the Methadone in my system that it shouldn't have been very bad! Ugh, it was miserable! I have never taken illegal drugs but if this is a normal withdrawal it is no wonder no one wants to put up with this. I am angry with my insurance company and with my pain management doctors!!! Now I want to go off of it all and suffer in order to never ever go through this stuff again. Does anyone have any comments? thanks,
