Another HIV test

white tongue

So today I went to get an appointment with the inmunologist. Unfortunately, Dr. is on vacations so I will have to wait a bid. So I also went with another Dr. (an infectologist - the second one I see during this week). But unlike the one I saw on Monday, this one was more interested in the case and seemed knowledgeble.

So he looked at my tongue, and didn't have an answer about what can be causing this, although he agreed with the first infectologist that this might be an inmuno or gastro problem. So he asked me when I did my last HIV test and I said October last year, so he said, "OK, let's make another one". I told him there was no risk in between and showed the 5 HIV tests done so far, but he said something like "just in case". He also took another oral swab of the tongue.

I will keep you updated on my results and on my visit to the inmunologist.

I also have an endoscopy scheduled for 5th September. Will keep you updated on the results..

best of luck. Even I don't know why he ordered another hiv test?

@optiplex, he reviewed my case from zero, therefore he asked for the test -he even repeated the oral swab although I told him it was negative for yeast (took like about 2 to 3 weeks ago). Will update.

well atleast you got a dr. who is willing to listen and didn't just ignore your symptoms.I think the reason he wants to test for HIV is probably he wants to cover all his base, so he can give you a definitive answer.

goodluck

that's correct @learning550. I think any good doctor would start over to double check. And yes, he does not ignore my symptoms and tell me to "seek mental health" or stuff like that (like certain members in this community).

If there was nothing with my tongue he wouldn'd test me for HIV neither he would do an oral swab. But there's obviously (and unfortunately) something wrong.

Nursegirl I agree 100% with you. Stress can cause you chronic weird symptoms. I had been under stress once and I experienced really weird symptoms for months. So you are correct.

I don't think ashler has HIV concern. He know that too. But it doesn't hurt to test one more time. I think this time it's more for Dr. confirmation than his. So the dr. can move on to other diagnosis.

I had some other problem few years ago and I went to see various dr. Most of them ignored considering my age. Finally I found a dr. who was v willing to listen and he was knowledgeable . so as soon as i explained my symptoms he smiled and said he know exactly what i was talking about. he did few test and I never have to look back again. If it was not that doc. i would still be chasing tails. sometimes it takes time to find a good dr.

i think you have found a caring dr. ...No money spent is > than peace of mind.

Health is wealth lol

This Dr. review my case from zero, and he suggested an HIV test (despite the 5 tests I showed him). He just wanted to double check, I guess.

Anyway, it's either inmuno or gastro problem. Endoscopy is scheduled for September 5, and I am still waiting for an appointment with the inmunologist for a batery of tests. We will see.

Sorry to meddle in , but I have not seen stress causing strange white tongue and produce some bacteria. Since doctor was concerned therefore he ordered test. Although we are pretty sure its not HIV  but getting diagnosed is good option.

You're right. Stress can not be the cause of this. I have had an HIV scare years ago and never ever had these problems. It just way TOO strange a person who was healthy all his life have all of the sudden these problems.

There's some underlying problem causing these tongue problems and I plan to do all necesary tests to find the cause (and I plan to update my case here, as this will serve to other who might have a similar problem).

I'll keep you guys updated.

The test came Negative for HIV (4th Generation HIV 1/2 Antibody/p24), however, the endoscopy I had today came also negative... Nothing strange was found. Going to the inmunologist in 2 weeks for a full pannel including T cells counts.

i was almost sure it was a  gastric issue like mine :( ,  but look at the bright side  the HIV  test continue same stand as last  year results so  there  is  something else  causing  this  strange  issue on you keep us post on what the inmunologist says

Thanks for the update. Though it was not needed in the first place, that 18 month negative is at least reassuring. If your case remains similar to mine your T cell counts are going to be normal. Let us know how it goes. Best.

Hope you find a reason. Some times reason is very small but remains unanswered until luck strikes. It was certain hiv would come as negative.

hey Ash, glad your negative again buddy!  I hope you can put HIV out of the picture now, but I do agree with Chicago.  I know how you are feeling and I cannot say if yours is the same but in my case I blame EBV for the white discoloration which varies sometimes and is more noticeable when I have a high sugar diet.

I have the same thing going on with my tongue , just the back of my tongue my taste buds are swollen and have a little tiny bit of whitish on it , a couple of days ago my tongue was a dark brown in one spot I was freaking out how ever I do smoke , but I went to the hospital twice in the same day to see two diff docs and the both said it wasn't contageious and it was just my taste budes one doc said it was normal other said their swollen , I have no pain or anything I can eat , I was looking up reason why I have this and it said smoking could cause spicy foods and so on , so im quitting smoking hopefully a week or so with not smoking does the trick , your post and picture has put my mind at ease , I was freaking thinking it could have been mouth cancer . glad im not alone on this but ***** your dealing with it , I noticed this was posted in September has your symptoms gotten better?
