Had my thyroid removed last week.

I went to the UTSW university hospital, which is St. Paul Hospital on August 20th for a thyroidectomy. They took out the whole thyroid, and there's now a 2 inch incision. This was a free operation, because I'm over my deductible for the year. They did a great job - no complications and almost no pain at this point. The right side has been sore. Today I haven't had to take a hydrocodone yet.

What's cool is that the lump in my throat is gone. I can swallow normally. No word on the biopsy yet. Even if it wasn't cancerous, I'm glad it's out. I'm also losing weight. I don't know if it was a thyroid imbalance, but I'm not eating any different.

Glad the surgery went smoothly and that it sounds like you're benefitting regardless of what the biopsy results are. We don't need any extra challenges in the swallowing department! I hope the rest of your recovery goes smoothly.

I had my thyroid removed but I'm still having the same problems as before, tired all the time, I gained 30 lbs and I go to bed early because I can't keep my eyes open. Do anyone have any suggestions on how I can control my symptoms?
