Is It Too Late For Me to Lose Weight?

Many people worry that they are too old to lose weight. Their health might be suffering and even a slight drop in weight can make a huge difference but they argue that "you can't teach an old dog new tricks." I have had patients in my practice and members of my online program succeed at losing weight even when they're in their sixties and seventies because they finally got the right information to lose the weight.

If diets have failed you in the past, you probably haven't had the right information. Diets alone don't work. What works is understanding emotional eating. Emotionally eating means all the aspects of using food for comfort, reward or as a form of self-medication.

People worry that their overeating pattern is so ingrained that it can never be changed. People worry that if they do lose the weight that their skin will hang and the world will know that they were once fat. People worry that they just won’t be able to bear another failure.

It is NEVER too late.

In the best stories, in the eleventh hour someone shows up and no matter how many times they failed before, we cheer. It’s just that the person you’re waiting to show up for you, is you.

It’s NEVER too late to show up for yourself. With the right information you can lose the weight.

Begin to become aware of the ways that you have been using food to deal with feelings. If you can see your pattern you can stop it. Observing yourself is a great way to start making a change, no matter what your age. I bought myself a Wii fit.  I like video games, so it is motivational for me to do the Wii fit stuff.  I feel like I'm playing a game, but I'm doing yoga stretches and some minor cardio workout things like walking in place and stepping up and down off the Wii platform.  Maybe it will work for awhile, while I'm obese and really out of shape... but when I'm too embarrassed to go to the gym or walk slowly down our neighborhood street...  I'm just thankful I found something that works in my own home.  And it logs the minutes you spend each day, and it weighs you.  So you have to be honest with yourself.  You see that you only did 15 minutes and it logs it, whereas if you were making your own log on paper, you could write 30 minutes if you didn't honestly do 30 minutes.  And it's actually fun to do push ups.  I'm too out of shape to do them regularly, but I am getting a workout even with pushing with my knees on the ground.  And the platform measures where your center of balance is and it takes stomach muscles and good posture to keep that center of balance!

Myhusband decided to buy me a bike, not a Walmart bike, but a real, good, nice bike.  I LOVE to go riding!!  I have lost 19 pounds since the end of January and lost 8 pants sizes!  We found out that I have diabetes and I have to eat healthy, which I had already started.  I feel so proud of myself, and while I still have a long road ahead, its muchmore enjoyable and great to have fun adn go biking with my family!

I love to loose weight, I guess i got to try harder. Once i have recovered from my surgery, I guess I will hit the gym. Thanks for all the tips.

I feel like i am getting health problems because of my weight and i am so hard headed that i eat and just don't care, but now it got to the point where there's no turning back. I am 260lbs and i want to go down to 150lbs.
