Space: these are the voyages of the starship Poppy Cat

Dec 15, 2013 - 2 comments

Well, I finally received the "big pay-off" and what I mean by that is, my twins are FINALLY playing together and wow, they are really making up for lost time. This started at 32 months or 2 1/2.

They have always fought like cats and dogs or simply ignored one another and James dominated my attention and still does, but it's getting much easier for us all.

They have played together before, of course, but never cooperatively - it always ended up in a fight and they never wanted one another to be there. James pretty much wanted me to be his play-buddy and that's it. I wanted to be elsewhere getting something done, but since that wasn't ever possible, I wanted to share my attention with both babies...but it NEVER worked out, ever.
I can't tell you how big a deal this is to me!!

So em, they are really getting quite creative already, even though they haven't had all that many play sessions together. There's usually two play periods per day, the big one seems to be in the evening.
It's really fascinating and crazy to see how fast they have picked things up! I really like astronomy, although I don't talk about it much and I'm not great at it or anything like that, but we do look at the stars and talk about space exploration and the possibility of life on other planets and such. Plus, they watch a cartoon called, Poppy Cat which is based on Cat who has a space ship, LOL.

Anyway, this evening they were running around the house collecting all kinds of things to use as props for their stage. They had a Pampers box which was their space ship and they were talking about putting on their helmets, using oxygen and looking out for asteroids! The counted down, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 11, 4, ...well, you get the idea.
Also, the whole time, they were on a mission to save a mouse, but I can't remember his name. They took a mouse ornament off of the Christmas tree and saved him, hahahaha. (Yep, I allowed it)
It was so cool, how could I not!

Anyway, I had no idea this was how 2 year olds played! It's fantastic!!!!

I can't wait for more :)

Aww :). What a wonderful step!!! Thank you for sharing this story!!!  It's a great one!  They are growing up so fast, my friend.  Time seems to move at warp speed.

On a side note...something pretty dang cool....the people who owned our house before us, pain stakingly put a whole crapload of stars on the ceiling in the room we use as the nursery.  Now, I am not talking about 50 or 100, I am talking about 100's!  They glow in the dark too.  They have the big dipper, the little dipper( in the position they are in the sky!!) , and several other constellations that I do not know the name of.  There are big stars and smaller stars.
There is even a red star...haha...ok, so It is the light to the smoke detector!!!  Haha!!!   Even night, either hubby or I go up and turn the lights on in their bedroom about an hr before bedtime, and every night after story time, we count down from 3, as we turn off the lights, and we look at the stars.

I would love to do that to the other bedroom, but Haven't been able to find package of stars that would even compare! And....dang...who would stick them all on the ceiling?!?!?!

Again, thank you for sharing!!  What wonderful children you have, and how smart!!!!!

That's cool - your twins are so lucky!

I have always wanted to put constellations on the nursery, but haven't found the time to investigate enough to realize that there isn't a package of stars out there that wouldn't satisfy me, LOL. I know there probably isn't unless I spent a crap-load of money and that's not going to happen.

Well anyway, I think it's time for a new scene. I painted the last one with the help from a friend, but I think the twins are ready for a change. I like the idea of planets a lot or maybe the states and countries, but then I would have to explain war at some point. Sad.

Meh, maybe I should just paint Dora and Lightning McQueen! Somebody please stop the madness!!!

Loved your story, thank you for sharing! I can't wait to hear stories of your twins flying through space! They will know all of the constellations before I do, hahahaha.
