Jade,
I've been keeping Axel very close to home and his ACL "seems" to be healing up pretty good............even though I know it will never REALLY heal. As long as he doesn't go off on one of his walk abouts with his "pals" and reinjure it, he walks just fine. He actually seems to have learned the cause and effect because even if we do let him out on his own, he sticks close to the house. That "care option" or whatever it was called that you turned me onto didn't work out. The surgery is so bloody expensive, we only found one vet who would even take it. He wanted 1/2 the cost of the surgery up front, which was totally not doable and the balance paid within 6 weeks, also not doable. I understand that veterinarians are in business, they aren't in the charity business, but if I was a vet, I know damn well I would make whatever financial arrangements someone needed to help an animal out of pain. In a perfect world, eh?
So sorry you weren't able to find a compassionate vet to help Axel. Yes, you would think they could extend some charity once in a while or take pymts at the very least. Know the Care Option probably charges interest, too. But,it does sound like Axel is adapting which is so good to hear. When we had our cats ears amputated, we could only affort it because I never spend money, but instead, sock it away for an emergency so believe me, that money came in very handy and was the only way we were able to afford it. I am in no shape to care for a convalescing cat so we had to pay to board her for 10days, but the vet loved Jade so much, I'm pretty sure they gave us a bit of a break which we were endlessly grateful for.
My prayers are with you and Axel, he continues to heal. He has Such an adorable, loving face.
