OK, so I made a mistake. The previous picture of the semi naked nestlings with pink skin and poky pin feathers turned out to be Sapsuckers, not Flickers. It took a week before their feathers unfurled a bit and I saw black and white. Then I knew, "uh-oh." They're doing well. I'm trying to teach them to eat on their own. A couple more weeks and they'll be free to leave.
WOW Its hard to believe how fast they grow. Cool picture. As for the mistake. LOL I'm sure I still would not have a clue, even now at this size, what they actually were..... I'm glad they are all doing well. That's most important. ;~) HUGS
At first I fed them a slurry of soaked cat chow, vitamins and bugs all pureed in the blender. Now they've graduated to chow pieces, whole mealworms and little pieces of fruit. 2 of them are showing interest in picking at the food themselves. The 2 smaller ones still expect me to feed them. That's OK. They'll reject me soon enough.
