Went to the Doc today as all of you advised. Now I am scared.

Hello girls, as you all gave me your advice ,I took it. I went straigt to the OB doc he says that I need a Laparoscopy they are going to do the surgery Friday 5/12. As of now he says the are going to do a D&C for thick lining in my uterues, I wonder what that's from?(HMM) Anyway, they will remove my cycts and see if I have bad endo. And they said anything and everything will be done then. I really won't know what they have had to do until I wake up, as of now they plan an outpatient surgery. But, they warned me if anything is to bad, or differnt from what the origanaly told me, than they will proceed to do it then. And I may have to be in the hospital longer. Keeping my fingers cross that this isn't the case. They say until the get in there they are unable to tell the extent of the damage? Still sounds strange to me. Is this the normal case. Can anyone advice me with similar experance. You ladies have helped and guided me so far and for that I am very greatful. For I would have probley put it off because of being a chicken (LOL).

Just a scared and confused. Thanks for all of your support.

I agree with raven as well.  Ask more questions to see what the rush is.  They are not telling you the whole story here.  You are in my prayers.

I agree with Raven. There has to be a reason for surgery so quick. Call and find out the reason for the rush. I know your thinking "I just want to get this over with", but you need to get all the information, before you go under the knife.

Hello, I read your post and I am going to check the gyn to make sure he is a gyn/onc. He was the one who seen me during my preg, many years ago and the other doc, who is in the practice with him, also seen me during my last child 9yrs ago and delevired her, I know he is a GYN/ONC.Maybe he is going to assit or be on call since the are parters in the their practice.I guess the are rushing because of the thick walls and complex cysts with solid components. Does this raise the chance of it being cancer? You asked my other symptoms are, really bad pain in my lower abdomain, bloating, sore breast, pain in my mid to lower back, fituqe, and pain with a full bladder. I know that my cysts are small 2 of them om left over of 2mm apeice. Does this make it less chance of cancer? Because I have read the other threads and know that most are larger. Any advice will be welcomed. Thank you

PS I posted this earlier, but was unsure if I did it correctly

Hi Missy,
Yowsa, your head must be spinning about now.  You are on what I call the "Fast Tract" for surgery, that's good, especially at your young age, but bad given your US results and CT scan I am at a bit of a loss on why.  I really am not trying to alarm you Missy, but if there is that big a hurry, and hoping it is just because the small cyst (2cm?) on the left ovary and the 2cm lesion they can't tell whether it is attached to the left ovary or simply adjacent to it.  What is it beyond you symtoms that has put you on the Fast tract.  It is just my opinion, but thinking you are not getting the full info here.  I urge you to request an GYN/ONC at least be present or, best case, do the surgery.  You have heard this advice from more than one of the women here and it is sound.  It is just a precaution Missy, you need a plan for the worse case scenario.  We all do!  They never know malignent versus benign until they do a biopsy on the cyst itself in surgery.  Until then, they do not know 100% what type of surgery is needed.  99% of the surgeries end up being for benign issues.  If a biopsy shows malignent, then it is a defferent course of action that is best done by a ONC specialist.  If your surgeon is not an ONC, the answer to the question, what will you do if the biopsy shows malignant?, may be "I will close you up and you will need a 2nd surgery".  Means your GYN practices what is known as "The Peek & Schriek" method.  An ONC can detect then deal with the worse case scenario.  If they have scheduled for surgery less than five days of being seen, I'd want to know why and who the ONC will be in surgery!  I don't mean to be harsh here but the Fast Tract should be justified to you!  Why the rush!  Ask these questions.  You cannot decide what to do until you know.  I would apologise for scaring you Missy but you were already there, and I am not one to tapdance around an issue.  I am known for being blunt.  Hang tough Missy!  please keep us posted!  Lotsa Love!  MV

A "D&C" is a dusting and cleaning.  Ha.  Actually, it means dilation and currettage.  The surgeon slightly dilates the cervix, and uses a tool to gently suction the endometrial tissue from the walls of the uterus.   This removal allows the surgeon to view the walls of the uterus to look for abnormalities.  It also gives the uterus a "fresh start" in growing endometrial tissues.  It is a common procedure.

(Be forewarned that after the D & C procedure, you might not have a period for a month or two,or only have a very light and short period, then the periods will come back lighter than previously,  then increase until they completely return to normal.)

I am in the same situation.  My gyn says this will probably be a laparascopy, but I asked to have a gyn/oncologist with her.  She was not at all offended, but warned me that gyn/onc like to do full incisions so they can see better.  Sure enough, the gyn/onc told me we'll start with a lap but if he can't get the cyst easily he'll open me up.  My cyst is pushing on my bowel, he said he "doesn't like to pull things off of a bowel with chopsticks."

You're lucky you got your surgery so fast.  I first went to the dr on April 11, and my surgery isn't until May 18.  I JUST WANT IT OVER!

Who is doing your surgery? You need to have a gyn/oncologist either be right there or actually do the actual surgery...my preference would be tho have the oncology specialist do the surgery.  This is what they are trained to do...they are more skilled and are your best bet..remember...YOU HAVE ONLY ONE CHANCE TO GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.  I remember the waiting also...not fun but you can do it. There are many women here who will wait wait you..they are understanding and compassionate.
Peace to you and your husband.

I know that this can be very scary, but it will be well worth it when you are out of pain :)  I was also in a similar situation when they went in to take out my cyst.  I knew that it was a possibility that the overy would have to come out, but I sure was praying that it would not.  I found out when I woke up, that they did indeed have to take the ovary.  Try to relax (I know, easier said than done :)  and know that I will be praying for you.  Kasie

Thanks Wubbie3, this is crazy, I guess I was hoping for a miracle pill or somthing. Well they sure let the air out of my balloon.(LOL) They seemed concerned and did a pap said those results will be in before the surguy. The waiting drives you crazy with worry. Why in the world do the need to do a D&C, I don't even know what that is. I'm sure between now and Friday I will be posting up a storm. You know trying to find out every little detail I can scroung up to calm myself. And I have found the is an excellent place for support. You are going through what I am, as well as many other's. My prayers are with you and all the other ladies. I hope everything goes ok with you, and you will have a speedy recovory. They sure arn't giving me much time to get used to the idea, then again there isn't much time for me to dwell on it and try to chicken out.(LOL)

A little chatting with people who know what I am going through seems to calm me. My hubby, poor thing, is asking me a lot of questions that I can't seem to answer. We got married when I was 15 and now I'll be 30 in Aug.I understand it must be scaring the **** out of him as well. So the more I learn, the more he learns. A little wisdom from wiser people never hurts anyone.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I know the feeling... I'm going through the same situation. My gyn told me that I'd have to sign a paper giving her carte blanche to do whatever needed to be done while she was in there. Apparently, the scans are only reliable to a certain point, and they actually need to see what is where in order to determine if more needs to be done.
For example, my gyn told me that if she gets in there (eep..next week) to remove the cyst and sees that my ovary has been damaged by the cyst, then she'll take the ovary too.
I understand the scared feeling... There's alot of us here sharing it. Just keep talking, and hopefully alot of questions will get answered.
Don't hesitate to post.... We're all here for you.
