I don't have a doctor yet. My sister has a family doctor who will see me initially and refer me to a gynecologist. I agree with your suggestion to have an oncologist as well for the operation. The gynecologist I have seen is a standard gyn and not gyn/onc but I am going to trust his opinion for now. Only two weeks until we move and we plan to enjoy a driving holiday across the country. To respond to some comments about abdominal pain, I found what I eat has an effect on abdominal discomfort. I eat small amounts at meals and focus on fruits, vegetables and grains and stay away from too much meat. It is amazing how a health issue/scare can provide motivation to improve my diet :)
Kasie has a good idea: if you do not already have a new doc in your new town, then start looking and getting those records ready.
Is the doctor you've seen a gyn/oncologist, or a "standard" gyn? If you are seeing a gyn/oncologist and he or she believes that there is no risk in waiting, then let that fact ease your mind. These specialists are experienced in detecting cancers, and I know that if a specialist believes there is a chance of cancer, then you'd have been advised to have surgery asap.
And, when you get where you are going, find a gyn/oncologist to perform your surgery. We only get one chance to do things right that first time.
gramma jen,
Has your doctor been able to refer you to a gyn. in your new town? Some cysts grow slowly, and some grow quickly. The symptoms you are experiencing just go with having cysts. I pray that you have a safe journey to your new town. Keep us posted on how things are going. Kasie
