complex ovarian cyst

Hi!  I am 36 and six years ago had surgery to remove a dermoid tumor.  The doctor did a laparotomy and removed my left ovary and tube.  I have now been diagnosed with a complex cyst on my right ovary and have been told I need to have surgery.  Can anyone give me any information on the following:

The ultrasound said that the cyst had debris and a solid component.  What does that mean?  Also, I originally had 2 cysts and at the second ultrasound only the larger (5 cm), complex cyts remained (but its size was unchanged).

I had a tumor marker blood test done and it came out good but doctor said that does not mean anything.  (then why do it?)  The doctor who diagnosed my cyst does not do surgeries so I will need to go to another doctor.  Should I see a gyn/oncologist or would a regular gyn be ok?

Since I only have the one ovary, should we try to preserve it or just get rid of it so that I do not have to have surgery again in the future?

Any help you can give would be great.  Thanks!

Hello Lady ..
Just wanted to let you know that I have been through all the IVF and to no avail ..But it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me ..I adopted a newborn baby boy ..who is now 141/2yrs and the most wonderful loving child and he has made my heart sing from day 1 ..
Adoption is totally the way to go ..especially if you know in your heart you have that maternal love and need to share it ..you will never be sorry .. I know with all my heart I could never love a biological child as much as I love him ..He has been a gift and every day I thank God forgiving me the best gift a woman could ever have ...People have told me over the years how nice I am for adopting him and what a great mother I have been ...But I have always had to correct them ..I was done the favour ..he allowed me to be part of his life and what he has given me makes what I've done for him pale in return ..
My husband left us when he was only 9 mons ( i was in a car accident and had multi surgerys ) he couldn't handle me recovering all the time and taking care of the baby and he came to my hospital room and layed my son on my chest and left ..We have been on our own since and couldn't be happier..I have had 31 operations in total so far and I haven't missed a beat of my sons life ...when it's meant to be it's meant to be and he has such a good character from being with me through it all ..That question of genetics versus enviroment ..Well I vote Enviroment ..he is totaly me and himself combined ..
So what I'm saying is when you love them well they love you back 10fold ..Again ..You will never be dissapointed ..
Sorry rambling now ..lol
I wish you all the best ...and ... a very happy life
Hugs ..Lex

lactac GO SEE A GYN/ONC!!!!! these are the best of the best and that's what you deserve! as far as if you should have your other ovary removed...well i guess that all depends on if your done with having children. i'm 33 y/o and my doctor wanted to try to 'save the ovary'. but after i told her that i've already been through ivf (with out success) and my husband and i are adopting, she felt better about removing (actually i was asking her to remove it) but you need to see a gyn/onc. even if it's benign, these are the people that know what they are doing with this. a reg gyn is just that a regular gyn. be pro-active. i hope this helps and good luck and God bless

Very wise woman....yes, you absolutely must see a gyn/oncologist...that is the person who would serve you best...he/she could help you find answers to all your questions...YOU HAVE ONLY ONE CHANCE TO GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.....you are on the right path....we will all walk with you...do see a gyn/oncologist and just as well get on with it..
Peace.
