Medication works great but embarrased, please help

Hi there,

I'm 25, with minor dyslexia and moderate to high adult ADD. I have been taking dexedrine, starting 2x10mg a day. I started it while in college. I think I started out too strong, and am tapering it down to 1-2x5mg/day.

The problem is that I got embarrased because my behaviour changed, I got nervous, felt awkward because of a faster heartbeat and dilated pupils. I am afraid that my teachers and fellow students might think I am on illegal drugs.

The thing is, with lower dosage it seems to work great! I am studying hard and not having problems reading and writing.

I don't know if I can keep going to school with big pupils. Is there anything I can do for this? What would you do if you were in my situation. I just feel embarrased to keep on my meds because I have a good reputation and I felt like I might have damaged it by being weird last week.

I was so interested in what my most boring teacher was lecturing about that I think students thought something was wrong with me, haha. I even heard, "look at him, hahaha" from behind me (and I was the only male there).

I am learning  lot right now and don't know what to do.
It would have been way less noticable probably if I started out more gradually. I took up to 25mg a day last week, and want to cut down to 10mg a day next week.
Advice? Anyway of at least preventing pupil dilation? Any other thoughts?

You really need to consult with the doctor who is prescribing the pills because those effects seem much more like how a normal person would react to that kind of med.          Essentially, you are on speed which can be very addicting.  It definitely will make any teacher seem more interesting.   And it certainly will help you study.  But there is a ton of downsides to all of that.  That is why a doctors advice is important.  By the way, you will build up a tolerance to these meds and have to start increasing the dose.  Did you use medication in high school or middle school?  How long ago was the ADHD diagnosed?  Dyslexia will cause study problems because it makes it so much harder to read.  The pills are only letting you study longer and more focused. There are prereading techniques that will help you study better and more efficiently.
A person who has ADHD will react differently to these meds.  Makes me wonder about how accurate the diagnosis was?
My recommendation (until you see your doctor) is to quit taking the meds.  Try coffee.  Use good study techniques with study breaks.  Plan out your studies so it doesn't hit you all at once.  Get physical exercise during the day and a good sleep at night.   Good Luck
