Study Problems

I'm not sure whether this is the right place to post this but I'm a university student, and I have a really hard time concentrating when it comes to study, and it's not because I'm lazy, whenever I read something it seems to go in one ear and out the other, I just find it really pointless, even when theyre major exams which failing could cost me over a thousand dollars each, I can concentrate perfectly when it comes to other tasks and in a classroom environment, ever since my first year of school I have struggled to do any work out of the classroom even in a library, and Ive been getting into **** my whole school life for doing crappy jobs on assignments or even just not doing them. I would appreciate any advice.

Well, that could explain a lot of the problems you are having.   And, of course, its easier to deal with a problem if you know what the problem is.
Here is a link to something that may help you in lectures and even studying outside the classroom.

Let me know if you need more info.
By the way, all studies show that a good high protein breakfast is important too.

Wow, after reading that first article I have a completely different perspective on the subject, it relates to me much more than I would have expected, I know for sure I wouldn't have ADHD but now ADD might actually seem like a possibilty, as I'm a very relaxed person (most of the time haha).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you often make careless mistakes when you have to work on a boring and difficult project? Always

Do you often have difficulty keeping your attention when you are doing boring or repetitive work? Always

Do you often have difficulty concentrating on what people say to you, even when they are speaking to you directly? A lot of the time, I very often say excuse me when people talk to, it just doesnt register most of the time.

Do you often have trouble wrapping up the final details of a project, once the challenging parts have been done? Always

Do you often have difficulty getting things in order when you have to do a task that requires organization? Yes, unless it's something I'm interested in, such as planning a trip with mates.

When you have a task that requires a lot of thought, do you often avoid or delay getting started? Yes

Do you often misplace or have difficulty finding things at home or at work?
Not particularly, although everything is quite well organised.

Are you often distracted by activity or noise around you? Yes

Do you often have problems remembering appointments or obligations? Considering I have a mobile phone and set reminders no, but if that was not the case then I would imagine sometimes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are also some other things I found that related well to me:

"They might be able to concentrate very well when playing a favorite sport or video game. They might be good at maintaining focus for a long time when watching TV shows they like, doing art." I am quite a creative person and enjoy drawing and can spend well over 2 or 3 hours sitting in the same spot comfortably doing so.

"Having a lot of difficulty staying focused on tasks, or remembering what they have read, or in keeping up with their work in school, homework or tasks at home." In regards to the difficulty remembering what they have read, this is also a big problem for me, it seems when I read I can not remember the last sentence I have read, and I feel like I'm just reading a list of words, unless it is a book im interested in, which is quite rare, or an interesting article. And in Uni lectures, which usually go for around 2 hours, I can stay focused for the first 45 minutes to an hour.

Well, thank you for giving us a try.  I hope I don't let you down.  I have an excellent link which I think you may find helpful.   However, just on the slight chance that you might have ADD which is the non-hyper form of ADHD.  Do check the following link.  It is not unusual for sharp kids who don't create problems in school to be unnoticed and thus undiagnosed.   Do take the time to read the link.  If nothing else, I think you will find it interesting. The link is -

The link I do think that you will find helpful is below.  While it is aimed at people  with ADHD, I can tell you as a long time teacher that the strategies are excellent and can help anybody.  I would have killed to have known this info when I went through college.   I also want to highlight the part on exercise.  Any kind of a brisk workout in the afternoon or early evening usually pays great dividends.  The link is -

Let me know if any of the strategies seem to work for you!  Best wishes.

I don't have take any medications, nor do I think I have ADD or ADHD, my best friend has ADD and has trouble even concerntrating when driving, and I don't believe I have any other concentration issues. I'm new to the forum and just thought this would be the most appopriate place to post this issue.

In terms of study problems, it makes a difference, in terms of advice given -  if you have ADHD/ADD.   And actually while virtually all the study techniques for people with ADHD will also help those without ADHD, medication also figures in.   So it is also important to know (if you do have ADHD) if you are on medication.  And if you are - when do you take it and what kind?
So, if you don't mind, let me know if you have ADHD and if so the types of meds being used or not used.
