Thank you. He is very athletic. He is only a freshman and he is on the varsity team. He loves it but has had many injuries.
Yes, that is a massive spurt and the elevation would make sense. By the way, until he gets used to that new body, he is going to feel kind of uncoordinated. Keep him in physical activities that require moving. Basketball is great. Just don't let him get discouraged if he isn't moving like he was at 12 or 13. He'll be great by 16! Best wishes!
Just back from doc. They believe the elevation is due to his massive growth spurt. He is 14 years old and 6'3". Hope that is it. We will see in a month.
It really depends if they were measuring ALT, AST, ASP or some combination of all. Muscle injury and IB use are common reasons for elevation. A growth spurt will also kick up ALP levels.
A retest in a couple of weeks should show a decline, but if really worried do check with his doctor. I really haven't seen anything linking concerta to those test increases. Hope this helps.
He took IB b/c I do not keep Tylenol in our house, due to the fact that his sister has Immune defectioncy with diminished T- cells, her enzymes are up most of the time due to this. Both liver enzymes were up on our son. First set only 6 # higher second set went from 42 to 99. They did the blood work b/c his foot actually looked like gout. But it wasn't.
If I remember correctly liver enzymes can be elevated by such things as anti-inflammatory meds, bone bruises, excess alcohol, etc. It depends on which enzyme was elevated. But they all can jump around. I am wondering why they did the blood work in the first place? My first thought is that its the hurt foot or the meds he took after his foot got hurt, that elevated his enzymes. Anyway, its always worth checking it out with a doctor.
