what to do about my 3 year olds uncontrollable whinning

My child is 3 years old and all he does whin all day and sometimes at night in his sleep. he has been like this since he is about a year. what is wrong with him there is no way it is normal to whin as much as him for no reason at all for 75% of the time. for instance he woke up 5:00am this morning wanting to put on a movie we said fine and then that isn;t good enought he just starts whinning and crying for no reason he still wanted to watch the movie it was on he wasn't hungry or tired just wanted to whin.

Hi.  Different kids have different temperments.  Supposedly my husband had issues like this as a little one.  What he wanted was attention.   He came from a big family and his parents hardly had time for him.  He really wanted them to notice him, play with him, 'watch that movie WITH' him, etc.  Do you think your son is crying out for more time and attention from you and your partner?  ??
