I mean to clarify that I meant alternatives that can be used with depakote. But always talk to your doctor about things like that.
My doc wouldn't give that to me. He said if he gave me adderall (which had worked for my adhd before the bipolar), he couldn't treat the bipolar. I was getting depakote + an antidepressant. Instead, he gave me a drug that is not a stimulant but is used for adhd and as an antidepressant. Can't remember the name (10years ago), but there are alternatives to adderall.
Hi Mindy,
I agree with Sandman, you really need to get professional consultation with any drugs that you are on or want to take. What is going on so you seeking information on this combination of drugs?
Oh boy, that is something you really want to discuss with your psychiatrist. Essentially, you don't want to take anything that might make you more sleepy with depakote. So a stim med should not be a problem. But, I have heard that you have to be careful with stim meds if you are bipolar. Of course, that depends if you are really bipolar or the ADHD is giving you those symptoms.
At any rate, I would start slowly and certainly with full consult of your doc.
