Medication question.

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with inattentive type ADD not too long ago but i was also diagnosed as Major Depressive with lots of anxiety (nothing official with the anxiety, but it was definitely there) well over a year ago. The first script i was given was generic Ritalin and it worked very well... well enough to completely get off anti-depressants and for most of that anxiety to go away. But recently it seems that whenever the drug begins to wear off i start getting very anxious, not like the anxiety before but more like a side effect. So basically I was just wondering what other ADD medications would probably work just as well with less of the anxiety effect when it wears off (I guess something "smoother" might be the world.) So what would you recommend? And what do you think a doctor would be most likely prescribe after Ritalin? Any help would be great and thank you VERY much!

You might want to check out Vyvanse.  It is longer lasting and not as anxiety causing as ritalin I believe.
Also, Two sites aimed at the adult ADD sufferer that you might want to check out are totallyadd.com and http://jeffsaddmind.com/for-first-time-visitors.
   Hope this helps

We have add, anxiety disorders, and sensory integration issues going on in our household right now.  As someone diagnosed with inatintive ADD I've had sucess with Ritalin.  However, there are nonstimulant medications out there that you could ask your doc about.  My husband and son are helped tremendously by one of them.  I've also been helped with a neurological med called Provigil.

I asked my husband and sons psychatrists about the difference in medications.  Both of them say that sometimes one med will work on one part of the brain and other meds will work on a different part of the brain.  Thus, even though both can help with focus, one might work for one patient while the other work for a different patient.
