Check out the Drugs he is on He could be having side effects , see if you can lessen them ,ask your Doctor who has prescribed them, you may find the Threads here interesting.
Well actually he takes three different things. Each do a tremendous job for what they do. Each was added seperately with a considerable amount of time between each. The risperdal for bi-polar manages anger and rage definetly pretty important the adderall has made a world of difference in the clasroom. He had to be re-taught everything from before he started taking it, because due to his inability to concentrate he had absorbed nothing. And the Depakote was the most recent, this is for social anxiety disorder. Before he started this one we would go to a birthday party at a place he's been many times before and he would sit in the car for hours and not want to get out because of fear. He wanted to so bad I knew this, but he couldn't. I lived my childhood this way, i knew exactly how he felt. Now he's fine still a litlle hesitant but he can get past it, and join the fun. I never wanted to give my son medication, trust me. But there are truly disorders of the mind. And since the consequences for me not helping him are far greater than possible side effects. I had to. I have people in my family who have succumb to their mental illness through suicide and drug abuse, or becoming hermits trapped in their homes. I too would be trapped in my home without medication. This is a proactive approach to the inevitable.
You don't have to justify why your son is on medication - you are his mom and you should know him the best. My 5 year old son has been diagnosed with ADD recently and cannot justify punting him on medication. At this stage he is not severe and i would like to try everything diet and natural supplements (Omega 3 DHA and multivitamin) wise to see if it will make a difference but with this i cannot rule out that maybe in the future medication might be the only answer we will have to see. I hope not.
Reading your first post i thought of side effects as well but I'm also wondering about Asperges. It just seems to be so many different diagnosis's that your little boy is dealing with.
Hope you find answers soon and that he can have a happy life - that is all i want for my son to be happy have friends and live life to the fullest.
