wondereing if 6yr has ADD Inattentive?

We were told by my 6 yr old son's 1st grade teacher that he is easily distracted, looses focus, stops talking mid-stream, needs to get up all the time and sharpen his pencil, go to the bathroom...etc... We are not noticing thses symptoms at home. He takes swimming and skating lessons and seems to be on point 90% of the time in those classes. He has lots of friends- very personable.  He is doing alright in school- he is a fantastic speller but is struggling with copying from the board and math. We just aren't conviced that he has ADD Inattentive that the school is suggesting he might have. Any suggestions?

one more thought often these types of conditions don't show up until children go to school because theyare now in a more structured environment.....

have you done all the usuals like had his eyes tested by a behavioural optomertist, what about his ears tested as well.  If he is an only child,  If he is  the problems the school teacher has will  be different to the ones you see.  as an only child he would be in an ideal learning situation where as at school he has to share the teacher and do the social thing as well.  things like sharpening pencils and bathroom breaks are all avoidance strategies so ther is something that he doesn't want to do.  Perhaps the work is too hard or even too easy.  take him off to a peaditrican and have it eliminated rather than go by what teacher is saying.  Having said all this she/he is a teacher and  will SOMETIMES notice things that we don't as parents.  By the way I am mother of a child who has ADD and I teach these chiuldren as well.  hope this helps.
