It is probably anxiety, but please see a cardiologist to rule that out a physical. See your primary care and have your thyroid tested. It can cause heart palpitations, depression, all sort of bizarre things. There is a set for too high level and too low a level...and take care of yourself. If you are not in therapy, please consider going. It took time, but it did me a world of good. Even with therapy, because my depression is organic, I needed meds. I fought that...should be able to do it myself, here goes society drugging women again so they will adjust to an egregious situation, etc. Boy, do I wish I had started much sooner. I could have stayed in therapy for the rest of my life and can list a set of things which would never have changed. On the other hand, meds for the rest of my life will not address self destructive behaviors I learned during child hood. Balance!
I went though symptoms like this over a year ago. I was working a stressfull job and these attacks would hit me almost like a seizure. my lips would turn blue and my skin pale, a second later, I would be red hot and sweating. my body would start to shake and my legs wouldn't hold me up. it got really scary when the episodes got to the point where I was almost blacking out. I could understand what people were saying, but could not get my mouth to function enough to make words.
Long story short, panic attacks. Your body could be showing its intolerance to a drug you are taking, or just mere stress.
Another thing for you to consider: women are subject to irregular heart beats. It would attest for the quick heart beat, the light headedness, even a pressure in your head that makes you feel like your top is about to blow off, twitching or numbness in limbs, involuntary twitching... ect. It might not be something Doctors choose to pay attention to because its quite common in women, especially at night.
it might not be something your doctor picks up on unless you are in a stressful situation.
Good luck!
Hello there,
I just finished reading your comments. A couple of things come to mind.
You say you have always been depressed. Are you taking an antidepressant for your depression? If you are, do you mind if I ask you
the name of it ? I don't think you're crazy. I suffer from depression too.
I need to take antidepressants. In my case, it's hereditary. Some antidepressants have side effects similar to what you are describing.
Do you have anxiety issues? Based on what you have written, I would
be inclined to say yes you do. I went through a deep depression many
years ago now, more than 10 years. My doctor tried me on a couple of
different antidepressants until we found one that works the best for me.
Before I forget, you mentioned you have an impacted wisdom. I assume
wisdom tooth. You need to have that tended to. You will be alright.
You will wake up. There's no need to be afraid. I had an impacted wisdom
tooth too many years ago. I was a little anxious too at the time, but my
dentist referred me to an oral specialist to deal with my wisdom tooth.
You're not under for very long. Just make sure someone in your family
comes with you as you will be a little groggy when you wake up, but get
this attended to. It's important to get this impacted wisdom tooth removed.
Has your doctor prescribed any anti-anxiety drugs or Antipsychotic Drugs?
I'm not saying you need them. The symptoms you describe such as rapid
heart beat, involuntary body movements, phobias and so much more sound like side effects to me of a drug you may be taking.
There was an antidepressant I took for a very short time ( 2 days actually).
This antidepressant, I'm trying to think of the name of it, gave me the
following side effects : rapid heart beat while sleeping, nightmares, profuse sweating, nausea. Those are the main ones I remember. I had been on
another medication called Serzone. A friend of mine had been taking the drug , Zoloft, for a month and she told me how much it was helping
her. I asked my doctor if I could try Zoloft instead of Serzone. My doctor gave me a prescription for Zoloft . The product name of Zoloft is Sertraline.. I only took it for two days. To say it didn't agree with me
was an understatement. I called my doctor and asked her to switch me
back to the Serzone which she did. Zoloft made me feel horrible, majorily
anxious. Because of the nightmares this drug caused me, I was afraid
to sleep. I also was afraid I wouldn't wake up. Sound familiar ?
You're not crazy. Such side effects of certain medications are very real.
I'm taking Wellbutrin now and have done for several years. It agrees with
me very well. Apparently it has the least number of side effects.
Some drugs , I've heard cause you to gain weight too. I'm not saying this
is the case. Anxiety also makes you want to eat more. If anything I've
shared with you today is helpful, I'm glad. If you want to leave me a message, I will answer you. I wish you well. Feeling anxious is an awful
feeling. I know. During my depression, I had what I would refer to as
anxiety attacks. I don't have those anymore., thank goodness.
Have you ever figured out why you feel depressed ? Does depression
run in your family ( hereditary depression) or is something that has happened in your life making you feel depressed ? Have you ever considered going for counselling where you can talk about what is
upsetting you, frustrating you, etc. Talk therapy is equally important.
I wish you well. Eve
