Early on in my dx I too felt like a Ginny pig. I was very nieve to how the process works. It has been a long road and continues to be so. So unfortunately for those of us who can't seem to find the right med or combination of meds to work, it is in fact all trial and error. All we can do is just keep trying until we find one that works. And know the side effects and watch for them. I am not familiar with Autisim but I can only imagine how challenging this is for you. Hopefully you have a dr for Autism and a psychiatrist for his Bipolar. Answers are out there but patience and preserverance is a must. Some things that seem to help is meditation, mindfulness classes, art therapy or art on his own of any kind and yoga. Checking his Thyroid (which can effect his mood) and Vit B and D. Some are deficient in iron also. If deficient, these can make a big difference once he takes what he may need. You might want to ask you dr about prescribing a prescription called Deplin. It can help a lot too. All of the above mentioned can be taken with Bipolar medicine. Talk to your dr, he wil
know. There are many things to do and try. Good luck with everything and message me if you need more help or have any questions.
I am a mother of a 24 yr old male whom is atustic and bi polar. It is very diffcult for him to know when he is going to have an behavior. He is on a lot of medications and sometimes I feel like he is a ginney pig to try out these meds. I get frustrated knowing he is going through a rough time not knowing what is going on in his mind and after he has his behavior he can't seem to remember what he did or said and sometimes it is very hurtful things he says. But I have to remember this is not my son it is his disease. I am willing to try anything to help him at least try to releive some of what he is experiencing. I couldn't imagine what these poor people go througheveryday. I will not give up. He didn't ask to be like this.
Thanks for your response. Question, I have a difficult time staying stable with my bipolar for any length of time, so do you mean the Accupunture will help with the emotional build up of this? If so, how often would you recommend to have a session in order for this to help. I have taken meds and have gone to therapy for a long time.
Acupuncture does not take away any of those, what it can do is help relieve some of the emotional buildup in your body, it activates the autonomic. The hard work lies in your own effort and making positive changes and dealing with the causes of your depression.
