Dog whining randomly and not consistently

My Dog Oct 28, 2010 started whining murder when jumping out of vehicle once, she whines inconsistently when turning around on vehicle seat, once in the middle of the night, on palpation of neck and back I can't get her to scream and I am really pushing, I have had her jump down off things and can't get her to whine consistently, I will sometimes just brush up lightly to her or step on a paw lightly and she cries, these cries seem so random, she is guarding herself since the first episode on Oct 28 because she just lies down all the time and doesn't come when called, she shivers out of pain, tenses up, doesn't even come running for food like she always did, when I palpate the parts of the body I touch and she cries, I can't get another cry.  Do you think it is neck pain or could it be an abdominal problem from being on pred, cyclosporine for 5 years (she has been on cyclosporine consistently for 5 years and pred on/off whenever she has a recurrence),  coud it be cancer in her abdomen?  I am thinking about going for a myelogram but what tests would you run else since her chemistry was pretty clean.  Could it be pancreatitis even though her chemistry is clean?  What are other causes for a dog crying?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
The pain you describe does sound like neck or spinal pain.  An abdominal ultrasound, and/or MRI of the spine should provide you with the answers you need to make intelligent diagnostic decisions, such as having back surgery for a spinal lesion,  if necessary.

Acupuncture is also quite helpful for spinal issues.
