Not eating for more than two weeks.

Not eating for more than two weeks.

My pomeranian dog is not eating for more than two weeks. Two weeks earlier it was continuously vomiting, and i found some worms in it. Our local doctors said it just stomach problem and they gave B Complex,Liver Extract With Vitamin B12 Injection and Betnesol  injection for two days.On may 11th it was given an anti biotic and ranitidine as it was thought to have gastric problem.Today My dog stopped vomiting, but he is having loose stools, not very frequently but once or twice a day and i didn't find any blood in it. Now I started force feeding him by using a syringe. And now he is improving. But he hasn't started to eat on his own. But he is not vomiting if we force feed him. What kind of problem this could be? We dont have facility to do X-ray or Blood test. Please help me soon, he is very sick..

Hello,  I see from you response on the initial post that your dog has now stopped vomiting but must be forced fed by you.  And you were wondering what this is caused by and what to do.

My initial answer still applies.  I am glad that the vomiting has stopped.  However, the problem could be caused by anything including a gastrointestinal parasite infection,  kidney disease, liver disease, an endocrine disorder such as Addison's disease, or cancer and many others.  Hopefully it is nothing serious!  Diagnostics will be necessary to determine the definitive cause.

The most important thing is to continue to force feed him and provide fluid therapy if he is not drinking. You mentioned that he also has loose stool.  Metronidazole is an excellent medication for this.  Please ask your vet about it.  Please also ask your vet about trying an appetite stimulant such as Periactin or Remeron.  Steroids can also help to increase appetite if the appetite stimulants are not available or ineffective.   Please also give probiotics in the powder form or as yogurt with live active cultures and some beneficial fiber, such as psyllium or inulin or equivalent to try to eliminate the diarrhea.  The Chinese herbal formula's  Four Gentleman or Si Miao San and others help with appetite.  Ginger and Astragalus are also helpful for appetite.
