Sore on Leg

Hi,
My dog has had a sore on his right hing leg for about 8 months. It is slowly healing but he keeps licking it. I have applied Bitter Apply around the sore to stop him from licking, but now noticed that he has another one on his left hind leg. I'm not sure what to make of this. I originally thought he had scraped his leg, but as I said it is taking a very long time to heal. Can anyone suggest something.
Thanks

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Chronic skin lesions are often due to "lick granulomas". These are essentially scar-like calluses that dont heal because the patient constantly licks it, rubs it, picks at it. They are very frustrating for owners because even with sprays and wraps and e-collars it can take months for the scar to disappear. Often vets will recommend laser surgery to essentially burn away the scar and allow it to heal a second time. topical cortisones can help as can vitamin E oral capsules. Just cut it open and apply it to the wound twice a day. In the end protecting it is all you can do and eventually it will heal.

Research is currently being done in MN on these sores using a new technology called RediHeal.  It looks like cotton candy.  My dog was treated in a study and it worked very rapidly.  You might want to search RediHeal.

Thank you I will try a topical corticosteroid ointment, and wrap it with a bandage & animal medical tape.
