german shepherd limping

My 10 year old german shepherd started limping.  The vet assumed because of her age that she has arthritis and prescribed Rimadyl.  It didn't help plus I have read bad things about what this drug can do to a dog.  I was petting her the yesterday and noticed that on one side it feels as if two bones are there and maybe come apart.  It does not feel this way on the other side.  I do intend to take her back to the vet and insist on xrays but would like a little information before I go to see that she gets the best treatment.  Could she possibly have a dislocated shoulder?

My 11 year old German Sheppard is having some serious back problems, he started limping a little over a week ago and its gotten worse last weekend.
I took him to the vet and he has been there since Sunday night.
After doing x-rays and some other tests they are telling me he has spine and joint pain.
Hes on anti inflammatory medication since Sunday night but it hasn't seemed to help yet although hard to tell because he seems to be drowsy with it and has a hard time balancing himself which wasn't the issue before medication.
I talked to the lady at the kennel I bought him from and she said he most likely just needs time to rest for it to go away, hes a very healthy dog and never had any signs of any back pain.
I'm going to take him home tonight, keep him on the anti inflammatory pills and home he gets better.

The vets have not suggested any surgery.

X-Rays can show Shoulder luxations, sub-luxations (shoulder dislocations), and other problems.  That would be an excellent place to start.

Please go to your vet and have X-Rays performed!
