A far too infrequently pursued diagnosis is chronic, intermittent vomiting as is described here. Vomiting of this nature is very, very commonly associated with IBD, inflammatory bowel disease, which is a family of inflammatory diseases of the lining of the GI tract. It is similar to what in people is called "IBS", irritable bowel syndrome. Because this is a family of diseases rather than one disease, each form is treated somewhat differently and an exact diagnosis is essential to management. Without that diagnosis, all treatment is quess work and is likely to be imperfect if not completely ineffective. The diagosis is achieved with a test and the test is called "endoscopic biopsy." Under anesthesia a scope is passed into the stomach, upper intestine and possibly lower intestine. The scope has a channel which allows a log biopsy forcep to be passed down to the site being observed and tiny sesame sized biopsies taken. These biopsies are evaluated by a pathologist who gives the diagnosis based on the changes int he tissues. That allows correct medication choices as well as dietary manipulation to allow cessation of vomiting.
It sounds complicated but it is not nor is it dangerous. You can possibly solve your dogs problem and provide the best possible quality for life for his last few years. If your doctor can't arrange endoscopy, they can do it at the vet school at Stillwater or see Dr Holland in Oklahoma City .

Good luck!

Hello boxerlover I too have a boxer who throws up when his tummy is sore. He is 3 years and a half and usually vomits when he eats to fast and demolishes his food to quickly. The thing that I do to prevent him from getting a sore tummy is I bought a elevated food and water bowl set that allows him to eat elevated, this also helps them from digesting less air into their belly's and makes their stomachs less bloated. I also feed my boxer white rice with his kibble because I notice that this helps digest their food easier and he is not as gassy. And also make sure you don't allow your boxer to drink water 40 mintues before and about an hour after they eat because this also makes their stomachs upset.
