skunk spray

skunk spray

I was just wondering if you should bring your cat to vet if he is sprayed point blank in the face by a skunk, i have bathed him and went online for recommendations. i used peroxide, baking soda, and dawn in water, it worked pretty well, also read to use baby or olive oil in eyes to help with the irritation, so i used a drop of that in each eye too.  he seems okay, but i read it could effect his sight and respiratory system, what do you think???

Skunk Spray Exposure

In general, exposure to skunk spray does not require a trip to the veterinarian.  My recommendation would be to contact your veterinarian to discuss whether they would want to see him.  There are instances where skunk spray has been toxic to pets but typically those are pets exposed to the spray in a confined area.

I would monitor for lethargy, vomiting, lack of appetite or redness or irritation to the eyes.  Due to the chemicals in the skunk spray, corneal ulcers are possible.  You did a good job immediately bathing your feline friend.
