My 17 yr old cat needs peace.

We have decided that this coming Friday we will have our 17 year old cat put to sleep. She has many health problems including kidney failure and we clearly know she is in pain. We know it is time. Friday will also provide the time for the family to prepare and then we can take her to the family property to be buried with her family of cats that went before her.
When this time came in the past for our other cats, we've had our Vet give our cat a sedative to put them to sleep, BEFORE he administers the fatal shot. This is for us.
This particular cat has always been babied and the thought of having to take her to the Vet for the fourth time in as many weeks really disturbs us. She shakes so hard we feel it through her carrying box.
So, My question is, is there something we can administer at home to calm her with right BEFORE we take her to the VET on Friday afternoon?
Thanks.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Your vet can prescribe diazepam or acepromazine that you can give her by mouth prior to taking her to the vet.  I am sure your vet will call in a prescription for you or have the medication available for you and your cat.
