Pink Urine

About an hour ago I noticed my cat squatting in different places around the house (me shooing him before he actually urinated). His cat litter was being changed at the time so he only need to wait a few minutes. Well he finally pinned himself in a corner and by the time I got to him he was already urinating. That is when I noticed it wasn't yellow like it was meant to be. I grabbed a white napkin and dabbed the urine. The napkin turned pink. It was just a little bit of urine but still enough to make me worry. I know blood in the urine can be caused by UTI and I am looking for a new vet as I type this (my last one was very discriminating towards me). I was just wondering if there is anything I can do for him now in the time it will take to get an appointment with a new vet? And what else might cause pink urine?

A little more information on him:
He is as active as he has been his whole adult life (which isn't very active). He has been cleaning himself on a regular basic. As far as I can tell he is eating and drinking normally. For the past couple of years he has been a little on the skinny side but nothing the vets haven't called normal.

I have had him since is was born and he is my pride and joy, I don't like seeing him sick.

Well we finally got a hold of a local vet and she said that it is indeed very urgent. She booked us in for 2:40 pm (about 4 hours from now).

He seems a little more comfortable now. Laying on the window purring. I on the other hand have been up all night :).

Thanks for you input doctor.

I am so sorry to hear that your kitty is having a difficult time.   Although there can be blood in the urine for a variety of reasons, from stones to UTI, a bigger concern here is that you seem to be describing a cat who is straining to urinate.

Please don't wait for an answer here...you need to take him to a veterinarian as soon as is possible.   Find your local animal emergency hospital and get him seen!

I have been observing him in his cat box and there is blood in his urine. It takes him a while to get it out and when he does he looks like he is in pain. It is 2 am and no vets are open right now. I am really getting worried. I know form experience how painful UTIs can be.
