Runs from herself

Ive had 3 schnauzers and one of my other ones did this and so did my friends schnauzer.  She jumps suddenly and looks back toward her rear end and runs.  She will run to me to protect her or pick her up. She was running every few minutes and panting.   She would rest and be ok if I rubbed her belly and then it would come back.  I thought maybe she ate an acorn off the tree but its not like her to do that.  I thought maybe she was trying to pass it and it hurt so I gave her some caster oil hair ball gel that my vet gave me. I used that once on my other schnauzer that did swallow an acorn when she was younger.  I also made her a bowl of brown rice to get her to have a good bowel movement.  I took her for a walk and she had the bowel movement but it was just rice and normal stool.  Then I had some steroids that I keep on hand because she has a flair up once or twice a year of allergy.  She breaks out in bumps and itching.   She only gets them gradually on and off for a 4 day period.   I know they are not good for her and am careful putting her on and taking her off.  I gave her one for two days in a row.  Thats all she got.  She is 95% better but still has alittle of it.   What do you think.  It does happen occassionally but never to this degree.

Misfits has given good advise because it really does sound like an impacted anal gland issue.

Anal gland impactions are often related to skin allergies or atopy.

Please take him to the vet for a rectal exam and anal gland expression.  While there that vet could investigate further if the anal glands turn out to be normal.

I'm not the Vet, but will answer this.....Since you are in Florida, a flea allergy will cause the reaction your describing......Fleas will usually bite the rear/rump. One bite can trigger the reaction although you may not see a flea....If you have no fleas, then she needs her Anal Glands/Sacs expressed....For many reasons, Anal Glands do not empty on their own as they are intended....Once they get impacted, they are very painful!

Your Vet or groomer will be able to do this for you.......IMO, After expression, they are sore for a couple of days.....Good luck
