my dog is shedding excessively is there anyway to control this

Try "Shed Stop" dietary supplement; either available online, or in pet shops.  If Shed Stop is not available, than  high doses of Fish oils or Omega three fatty acids may help.

Excessive shedding can be caused by seasonal changes, but can also be caused by endocrine disorders, and other dermatological abnormalities, which should be investigated if Shed Stop or other Essential oils doesn't solve the problem.

we  bought a groomers brush the best dog food and supplement, maybe is it because the dog is a golden retriever or the time of year?

There isn't a dog food that I know of that will stop shedding.  Shedding is the release of dead hair.  Brushing on a regular basis will help, having a groom done will help, or you could have your dog shaved.  ???  Some people prefer it, some dont.  Thought I'd throw it out there. :)
